Default NEED URGENT HELP with hesitation & other issues

Hey guys, first off, I have a 90 accord with a F22B DOHC Lude SI motor. just put a new F22B in the car because the last one was shot. Im having a few problems that i still havent solved and im getting desperate. here they are -

*Hesitation while holding at ~4-4500 RPM
*slowly became a problem big enough to keep the vehicle from starting
*changed out the dist. for my old working one
*car was able to run with TPS unplugged so i replaced it with a known good one
*NO CEL s
*When car was hesitating, the tach would fall out even though the motor was still around 3K

-- Im now down to very few ideas, like possibly the alternator, or ignition switch. Does this sound right? please someone help, i need to be able to drive this car soon. thanks everyone.

Tony

ill post it there as well, but i posted it here on purpose, first and most important, i AM running an F22B motor, which IS from a JDM prelude SI and is also closely related to an H23. second, from what ive gathered the prelude guys seem to be more knowledgable about hondas than the accord guys.

Haha, whenever I go into the Accord it seems like mostly 'car decorating' or ricer threads.

I don't understand exactly what your problem is...the hesitation? Car's not starting?

hahaha exactly. well i guess both are the problem, first, it was hesitating, then it wouldnt start. now sometimes it will start but will hesitate when the gas is pressed. Im still not getting any check engine lights. what really makes me thing that the alternator may be to blame is that when it misses, the headlights dim. the lights all stay on, they just dim. the car also stumbles after being reved and when the RPMS drop, it tries to stall. im hopeing to have this solved soon, i miss driving my honda. thanks for all the help in advance.

Things I would check first are spark plugs, distributor rotor, timing (cam and ignition if you can), main relay, ignitor (in the distributor), and alternator voltage. Sounds like you have a bunch of weird crap going on in there

Oh real quick before i forget again. Back when i was disconnecting the TPS to get it to start, the check engine light would come on. then last night when i put in the new TPS, and it still didnt start for a while, i unplugged the TPS and now im not getting a check engine light for that. do you think this means bad ECU? Ive also narrowed my problem down to this....

*Car wont start for like first 5 minutes i try
*when it starts to hit, it will start and cut right back off and do this for like a minute
*when it starts all the way it misses when gas is applied, but will idle fine.

so thats where i am. im going to test all the above mentioned things later on today, esp. alternator output. I just wanted to drop that since the REAL problem was kinda hard to pinpoint. Thanks

ok well ive made some progress. the car starts right up when i first try, and stumbles for a sec then it smooths out and goes into fast idle(~1800) and will stay there smoothly. after about 4 minutes there it starts to do an odd IACV type idle and wont stop ever, and im still not getting a CEL. when you give it lots of gas though it still wants to miss. the car is ACTING like its getting too much fuel( like when i rev on it multiple times it starts to miss like previously stated, but it also backfires), but when i was spraying the gaskets down to find an intake leak, the cars idle smooths out when i spray carb cleaner into the TB please help im still out of ideas. thanks everyone.

I had this problem with my civic not sure if its the same. Check and clean your grounds on the thermostat housing. I ran one right from there to the body. Worth a try.

Did you check timing? Maybe an injector is clogged or dirty if the carb cleaner makes it run normally...

Oh yea i forgot to mention i checked timing and its right on. tonight i noticed while checking the ICM that even though my connectors were clicked tight, i think that it still might have a loose connection so tomarrow im going to pick up a pack of zip ties and tie the connectors tight, and that seems like it might fix it. so ill let you all know as soon as i find out.
