Default For those 4th gen auto to manual people! Tranny mount question

Ok hang with me here. My 94 was orginally F22a1/automatic, i converted it to 5spd and a jdm h22a.

My 92 is a factory 5spd car.
I have noticed the tranny mount through bolt hole is different.
My 94, Auto mount hole location

Then my 92, 5spd hole location

The actual mounts welded to the frame appear to be the excact same.

My question is has anyone re-drilled and moved the hole? I keep hearing clutch chatter( last spring break i installed exedy oem replacement clutch, resurfaced oem flywheel, rear main seal) so i know it's not that. I've read that mis-alignment of engine/tranny mounts/worn mounts can cause clutch chatter, correct?

I plan on getting a set of aftermarket mounts, so im betting that lining up the tranny mount will be a royal bitch( it was last time). Help please.

Nope, the vc leans down towards the tranny side. It is very noticeable from the front.

So it seems like you definately need to fix that I assume the auto mount is different from the manual mount?

I'd drill a new hole to level the engine out. Probably need a die grinder to get into that area...

I actually noticed this a while ago when I was doing research for mounts. The auto and the manual actually have different mount points. I was wondering why no one has noticed this before.
heres the proof hope it helps you on how far to move the hole. So it needs to be moved .67 inches down. and .51 in to the right

.67 inches up and .51 to the left you mean?
Thanks for those pics. Assembly line specs? Where did you find those?

Can i weld on a new mount if need be? If i drill the hole it will end up being a big slot because the bolt head is 3/4 of an inch. My 92 has 193,xxx miles, way more rust than my 94, has been wrecked mutiple times, or i would just swap everything.
I'm open to any advice, thanks guys.

The Helms has those specs back in the body section for frame alignment and things like that.

Have you thought about drilling out the spot welds on the brackets and swapping the actual mount brackets to the other car? Would be some welding but you wouldn't have to cut anything...

I need to check majestic and see if they sell the actual mount to weld on.

I plan on pulling my engine/tranny and doing some "stuff" so i need my 92 to drive to work and what not.

the nut on the backside might be difficult to relocate as well since its welded to the mount. thats interesting though.

does anyone out there think it would be a bad idea to drill th new hole in the existing auto trans mount and weld a new nut on the backside?

wow, this is news to me. I didnt realize they were different at all. My car vibrates at idle waaaay more than id like, but i always assumed it was the ES inserts causing it, not a missaligned tranny mount after the swap.

I think drilling a new hole would make it weak seeing that the bolt head is almost 1inch and the welded nut is about the same, and with the distance the hole needs to be moved, it would be a slotted hole. But im not the smartest person so i could be wrong .

I've never read of anyone moving the hole, I think i found the mt tranny bracket that could be welded on http://www.hondaautomotivepart...KHEAD #30

Keep this going guys

Good stuff steveo

I'm about to go outside and verify this on my '96

I have ES motor mount inserts and its always a BITCH to get that mount in.....I have no clutch chatter problems though, just a little extra rattling.

On a good note the angle being off like that effectively makes our mounts stiffer, lol....

When i pull the engine/trans i'll take a look at my clutch and flywheel, probably going with a lightened this time.

Does #30 look like the only thing i need to order?

if you could pm that would be awsome. I was thinking about taking my mount out because I was working on a "different" swap and might need clearance.

But if the swap didnt work I wanted to put the stock mount back in.
