I need a master list of better gas mileage.
1995 honda accord lx.
I am going to take my car to the mechanic within this week or next week to get the major tune up @ 79K miles. Lately I have been calculating 19-23mpg on both local and freeway. Anyway, what are some things to fix in order to get better gas mileage?
Dist. caps
Dist. rotors
t-stat
spark plugs
oil change
oil filter
air filter
injectors
tire pressure
o2 sensor
EGR
PCV
fuel filter
alignment
driving like a granny
what else?

make sure that your EGR system isnt clogged up, that will also eat gas. Air filter must be clean. Also make sure that your o2 sensors are working properly. They dictate the fuel/air ratio, so if they are dirty, they may cause you to run rich...using more gas.
PCV valve
proper allignment and tire inflation
take all the extra crap out of your car
if you drive over 70, slow down
windows up and use A/C over driving with windows down

i know, from experience, if you have a 6th gen sedan w/leather and side airbags, if u take out all the seats cept the driver's and also the mat in the trunk that covers the spare tire, u will save 94pounds
dont ask how i know, but all the seats are in the car so u know...took out seats to clean carpet...

the pcv is on the valve cover right on top it plugs into the valve cover. the egr valve recirculates unburned gasses back into the block to get burned up.You can have a lot of problems if ur egr is opening early, like loss of power or hesitation which mean low gas milege

EGR = Exhaust-Gas Recirculation
Recirculate a small amount of exhauast, which lowers combustion temperatures & therefore reduces NOx emmissions. If the EGR passageways are clogged, or the system is otherwise screwed up, the engine runs badly.
PCV = Positive Crankcase Ventilation
Manifold vacuum draws a small amount of oily air out from the crankcase. Vent line allows air in from the intake tube. If this is messed up it takes too much air or the air gets too oily.

Not to threadjack, but on driving like a granny.....I seem to have noticed that my 94 accord gets nearly the same gas mileage, always within 2-3 mpg, no matter how hard or soft I drive it.

Even lightening the load.
It really does diddly to my MPG.

same here...only time i noticed a change in MPG is when i drive with me n my girlfriend vs me and a car full of my fat friends.

If the brake calipers are dragging you won't get very good milage, its like driving uphill constantly. Fixing the brakes on the last honda i bought improved the milage by 5mpg.

thats because the internal combustion engine has peak efficiency at about 75% throttle. just accelerate moderately and you'll see improved mileage. If you have a manual, don't lug it, down shift to a more appropriate gear.

easy just drive like an old bitch and coast a lot too
im gettin like 30mpg maaaybe more or less by 2mpg in my F23A1 AT i rev to 2500 for 1st, 24-2500 for 2nd, then 2000 or less after that
believe it or not but it goes pretty quick, about the same as revving to 3000
basically, stay out of vtec
of course if uve got stick.. that would help some cuz i think i waste a lot of gas poking the gas to get it to upshift dumb pos f23 at
