Default high compression pistons

i need help! last week i went to smog my car of course i didnt pass. i jus rebuild my motor with jdm itr pistons. i pass everything else with flyin colors , but the one i didnt pass is the emission part. i was runnin too high of emission can the itr can cause that to happen. also i'm running too rich. i have 2600 miles on the rebuild. have any had a problem like that in california. what can i do to pass the smog. i dont want to do a illegal smog. that how shady smog tech get money and i'm not goin to fall for it. oh i forgot i have 98 integra gsr. please give helpful ideas and opinons.

Have a chip burnt, cut some fuel out so you are not running so rich. (have somone do this that knows what they are doing. Have the car on a wideband)

you shouldn't do it if you dont have a wideband to tell you how lean your going

Maybe you could do it just to pass the smog and bring it back

cant use an obd1 ecu, car is obd2. A legit smog station will fail him upon hooking up code reader

my buddy passed with an apex controller. 99 si with jdm itr pistons, and Blox type A cams. Might wanna look into that possibility.

what do you mean you were "running too high of emissions"?

what was high c0? nox? hc?

i beleive if you lean the engine out it will cause higher Nox..

im not a smog tech, so someone chime in.

It's not the pistons, its the tuning. Well, I guess it is the pistons if you refuse to tune. Anytime you change internal engine dynamics you need to tune. Don't you want all the performance gains your car deserves, and reliability, and gas mileage, and reduced emissions,...then tune it.

Or you need a new cat.

yeah it raises "Emissions" also running lean raises emissions and running rich raises emissions..look at your smog printout and tell us whats high and failed..

it also could be a bad catlytic converter, bad o2 sensor etc..

15mph=HC(ppm) max 61 ave 9 meas 75
15mph no(ppm) max 467 ave 57 meas 55
that what it read on my smog paper.

High HC is due to misfire. Check the plugs and wires. This could also be caused by a lean misfire.

could be misfire, but higher combustion temps (higher compression) cause higher hc,

its not failing by much bro...i would throw some cam gears on there,if you dont already have some and retard the intake cam a few degrees..this will help lower your static compression a bit... and will help alot on those hc's.
