My GS-R has an aftermarket stereo and the dash kit is horrible - It sticks out at the bottom on both sides and seems to be damaging my center console by digging into it above the cupholder.
I poked around and figured out it has an American International kit in it which belongs to the Metra family.
I was wondering if I want to get the Scosche kit and try to install it instead and see if the fit is any better
Please advise!
Thanks!

A/I is not a Metra kit.
Metra, A/I, Best, and Scosche Honda/Acura kits are made to fit a number of Honda/Acura cars, the trick with all of them is to break away the correct "lock" tabs, along the top/bottom and sides.
The instructions that come with the kits are no real help, it is best to just look at the kit and the opening it has to fit into and decide yourself what tabs to cut off.
I have had kits with all the tabs removed and still been able to mount the kit and HU solidly in the dash.
IMO the best fitting/matching kit is the Metra 99-7892...

but again don't trust the manuals tab cut off directions.
The most stock looking install is no kit at all, use the stock pocket and some custom brackets to attach the pocket to the HU and then hold both in the dash like the stock HU and pocket are held in.

Thanks, fcm. I think thats what happened, wrong tabs were cut off in the AI kit as well so it sunk in the top and stuck out the bottom.
A friend gave me his scosche kit and we'll see how that one goes. I just want it to straighten out.
If it sucks ***, I may order the metra kit.
Thanks!

Well, I took the kit out and re-installed it today properly. The top was sunk in too far in and the bottom couldnt be clipped in and I fixed this problem. It looks much better, but I have one fitment issue - the cigg lighter piece is sagging on the ash tray side. Looks like it needs to bolt up underneath somehow? Any ideas? I am **** and this sorta stuff bothers me
