I got my car with 52K on the Odometer. It is a 2002 Ex Coupe w/ 4 cylinders.

After putting 500 miles on it the Maint Req light started to blink for 10 seconds at startup.

Now I have 54K on it and the Maint Req light will not shut off.

I know I can reset it if I want, but I dont want to do that if something is possibly wrong with the car. I was thinking it just means I need my 60K maintenance, but it is still 6K short of that.

What do you think?

 

There is no real problem if it is just the maint light; you can check the service schedule to see what is due to be serviced and make your decsion if you want to maintain the car or not.
FAQ thread has info on resetting the light.
The light comes on at 15k intervals [I think] so it has just been that long since it was reset last time

 

ok thats what I figured... I want to maintain the car, but now I am wondering if it is safe to wait till 60k.

 

you'll be fine as long as you keep an eye on things such as your oil. If i were you, i'd do an oil change then the 60k maintaince at 60k
