get mapp gas, painter's tool, wd-40 and rags. working in small 3x3 sections heat up the tar, until the texture changes. scrape away with a painter tool. when most of it's gone spray wd-40 over the residual. roll the windows up and let it sit in the sun for an hour. wipe away the residual with a rag.
repeat the wd-40 step until it's all gone.

Ha... By reading this comment I can tell you have never used liquid nitrogen.
First of all you could never get it to your house. You cannot just fill up you up a gallon of nitrogen and carry it to your house. IF you put the cap on the gallon then it would explode in about 3.3 seconds because of the gas expanding. If you didnt put the cap on then in about a minute it would all evaporate. Liquid nitrogen has to be kept at around -300 degrees. When you figure out away to keep it that cold and take it to your house let me know.
IF you did get it to your house and was able to pour it in your trunk then it would instantly freeze everything. Then when you smacked it with your hammer it would snap the metal like it was a piece of ice.
So whatever you do OP. Please dont try getting liquid nitrogen.

I've been told that this is by far the easiest way to do it. The only way I've taken off the sound deadening is with a chisel and hammer. Sucks.

Go to home depot and get one of those dudes hanging out there and give them $50.
or
You can take a scraper and a propane torch. Use the torch to heat up the scraper to “really f’ing hot” and scrap. It will cut through it like butter. Be careful the gas tank is right there.

dry ice and rubbing alcohol is a good way to do it.. the rubbing alcohol helps distribute the cold so you can chip out the tar in peices..
you should be able to get dry ice from your nearest grocery store. they usually have it behind the butcher counter, or in its own separate cooler at the front by the checkouts. its a couple dollars a pound and rubbing alcohol is cheap also.

to hell w/ buying it. next time you pass by a grocery store and they are unloading a fruits and veggies truck, just pull in and talk to one of the stock boys unloading it. they usually give it away
