Default PIC of CAR POSTED! Should I put a b-series in a 1st gen? FREE CAR...is it worth it?

I got a free 1987 crx si...black exterior and black and grey interior...Cleanest interior that I have seen in the first gens and the body is not beat either..just normal rust in the quarters...

FREE CAR.....

Should I make it a project??

IS IT THAT HARD TO DO?? IS what people make it out to be??

Suggestions please.

Thanks in advance

Damn a free car. I see no reason not to make it a project. That way you don't use up any money buying it. It can all go to making the car better.

As long as you put the $ out for mounts and ****, it'll be worth it. It's just a little tight in there.

Ground Control does coilovers for the rear, and you gotta search around for torsion bars up front.

Also...Guy claims that the motor blew on him but when I turn the key it acts like it wants to turn over but it doesn't...could it just be the dizzy?? maybe the belt snapped??

no sound of piston clap or anything....?? wierd...dunno

ST used to also make lowering torsion bars for the front. Check with them.

I am doing exactly this. However, it's not in a free CRX, it's in my prepared 87 CRX racecar that spent 6 years in SCCA IT racing and 4 years in time trials. I am finishing gathering and researching. First off, be sure to put http://www.redpepperracing.com into your favorites. That's the site for 1st gen CRX's.

So I've got my car with many thou$ands in the suspension/wheels/tires. I decided recently to upgrade the power rather than selling and getting a faster car. I have a B18c1 integra GSR motor. The hydro tranny should be replaced with a cable tranny. I just got one from a 91 integra. You can further upgrade power with a B16 vtec head. The increase in compression and cam profile puts the engine into pretty much B18c5 (integra type R) territory. With this engine/tranny, you can now at least BUY mounts.

Hasport also does axles. Mounts and axles together run $1k. I have a boatload of mounts and so many axles, I don't know what to do with them all. I have not yet gotten into how to make what I want, but plan to try to rebuild the 91 Integra axles with CRX ends. Note: the crx hubs are not the same as b series and are not the same as 1st gen integra.

It is going to be VERY tight getting the engine in there. In addition, if you use a B18c1, you'll want to find a different intake manifold or be prepared to modify the firewall to make it fit. Since my car is a true track-only car, I'm leaving that decision up in the air until I'm farther along. I have no dash/heater so there's not a lot of problems in doing a small cut/space/reweld for me.

If you want an LSD tranny, I'd suggest getting a complete B16/LSD cable tranny from HMotors. They won't sell the lsd tranny alone. Otherwise, be very, very careful. I've been offered a number of LSD trannies that I know are not. On the street, you might not car (except getting ripped off) but on the track, my 1st lap would tell me if it was not LSD.

Wiring is another issue. It's not for me because I bought an entire car to get the B18c1 as a driver, so literally stripped the entire harness from front to back out of the car. If I want, I can now hook it back to the engine, connect the battery and a fuel pump and start the engine on the floor of my garage. Wiring in a D series....vacuum advance disty at that....will be....well....not fun.

When you're done, you'll have one heck of a go kart. The bigger integra engine in the lightest CRX. I'll complete the swap next winter. I do look forward to putting the engine into my 1600 pound racecar. I already can hang with M3's sometimes. Now, I'll be going after the 911's. :D

Sounds good...yeah I know about redpepperacing already. Sounds like I plan...yeah I plan on putting the same set up I have in my car already which is the "poor man's Type R" there is more clearence than a GSR. But yeah..not sure yet. Im just scared to dump money into this and I give up because of money. I wanted to build another 2nd Gen...not sure.
