Passing Emissions Testing
Yes I used the search function, and only found about 3 or 4 threads related to emissions, but nothing helpful.
Okay, I failed my emissions test horribly(in Illinois). CO and CO2 levels were fine. It's the hydrocarbons(unburnt fuel) that got me. Seems I'm running way too rich. I'm running the ZC ecu on a d16y8 motor(from a '99 civic EX), so that definitely explains it. I thought that turning down the fuel on my V-AFC would do the trick, but I was wrong.
I'm going to borrow an HF ecu from a friend to use for the next emissions test. He tells me that the car will run about 30 minutes before the CEL goes on because he's tried it before and it seems to be 30 minutes each time. Good thing is that the emissions facility is only blocks away from the house, but hopefully the lines won't be long. Otherwise I might just plug in the ECU while waiting in line.
My question is: Will using the HF ecu lean it out enough? Or is the catalytic convertor more likely the culprit?
I'm probably going to try the HF ecu in the next few days, then if it fails i'll try changing my cat. If the HF works, then I probably won't bother changing the cat since I only drive it once a week.
Thanks for the input!

Yeah, my car runs way rich too, and I need to go get an emissions test here in stl very soon. I would also like to hear any suggestions people have. I advanced my timing a tad, and that helped a little, but I still get back fire pretty often.
Maybe one of my fuel injectors is sticking.....hmmm. What are some good feul injectors to get?

Not sure if these would work for ZC, but for B16's you can use extended reach plugs (NGK ZFR4F-11 )that burn hotter than O.E. plugs. These with and adjustable FPR leaned to the lowest (20-25 psi) should get you through the door no problem.

Man, I failed again! I tried using the Si ECU and turning the fuel down, but almost same result. Strange. I think I'm going to register my car as a show/race car so that it gets a waiver. I only drive it to shows... and between that, once a week on the weekend. I'm going to use up the last allowed test, though to kinda see what's wrong.
