Dohc Nightmare (long)
Okay, lets start by saying, i was laid off from my job on tuesday around 11:-- so i decided lets start the swap now instead of waiting for the weekend, so i bust out my cell phone call my freind rey, and my other freind josh. hey guys lets do the swap, rey comes over around 4, and then we have to pick up josh at 9 didnt get back from that till about 11. when we get back we have to pop the axles out of the hubs, well these must be the oem axles that came on the car 12 years ago, the passenger side pops out in 10 minutes, the drivers side, decided it didnt want to come out, so after about 3 hours of prying and punching etc, rey said lets get a press and press it out, well it was 1:30 now hmmm so we jumped in the car and headed out for the 24 autozone, picked up a press and came back put it on, ding the axle came out, then we chained the motor, undid the axles and pulled the motor out wich was relitavely easy, we then proceed to pull of the wiring harness and then went to get breakfast, we get back its not about 8:00am and they go home. i convert the harness to the new motor, and prepare it to be dropped in again come inside and chill for a few hours, well rey comes back over at 1 and we start to drop the motor in, wich took us about 3 hours just to get the ****** in the rightway without bumping ****, etc.... well we get the mounts in and ****, except for the rear mount, hmm its not lining up wich wouldnt make sense, so then i revert back to the helms manual (this is what we had been referring too) and guess what nothing, so then i dig out the papers that came with my Place Racing mount kit and guess what,
1. you dont need the front mount with this kit, (i already knew this) however you must remove the brackets for the front mount, these are welded in, you will need to drill out the spot welds,,,,, ****!. So me and rey proceed to undo all the mounts, and pull the motor (probably took an hour and a half. went to walmart got a big drill bit, came back started drilling, and we were getting no where plus it was getting late, rey went home, i got out a pry bar and kept bendind these things back and forth, finally they broke off. I will never recommend these mounts again, the removing the mount brackets were like in fine print, that should of been the first thing they put in the instructions. alsothey look small compared to size of the oem mounts, they dont even take up the entire amount of space allocated by the brackets.... Enough bitching. So now, we have to drop the motor, hook up all the hoses, and engine harness plugs, then i need to make the wiring changes to the ecu, put in the axles, and then the shift linkage, (i bought hasport adjustable shift linkages and they dont look adjustable at all, there isnt anything to adjust so i dont see how these are adjustable, and then go pick up a throttle cable from the nearest
dealership
i have been awake for 40 +non stop hours, this **** would of been ******* easy if we havent had these problems, i guess everyone has there story, oh well i just hope the rest of this **** goes well,
hopefully if my help doesnt give up this thing will be running tonight.

The guy thats helping me is very busy now and the motor has been in for a month now, but still no vtec and other problems like cv boots, etc that still need to be taken care of. Everyone has their story....good luck and lets hope all of us get happy endings.

Swaps are like that. Nothing goes according to plan.
The Hasport linkage by the way is not adjustable. The HCP linkage is the one that is adjustable.
Good Luck on finishing it.

See people, THIS is why I paid someone to do my swap for me! I'd be just like this
You should have consulted the Speed Phreak swap page....j/k. I know all about **** taking longer than it's supposed to. My first LS swap took 3 friggin months. I alos used Place Racing's kit, I haven't had any troble out of it in the past 2 years. The mini-me swap on my daily, I thought i'd have done over the w/e has streched into a week long affair.
<---- who has chisled/drilled/bent/cussed/spit/bled more than one time over removing the front braket for Place Racings mount kit.
PS. Why'd you remove the engine just to remove the bracket off the x-member? You could have just dropped the front x-member out in about 10 minutes, and made it a lot easier. As for the axles, WD-40 or "penetrating oil" works well. make sure you lightly gearse the axles when you put them back in, it
ll make ti eaier.
But seriously, i've got a pretty deep EF/B series swap write-up on my site if you care for some help.

I guess I could consider mself lucky. I had my swap done in 13 hours which wasn't bad for my first one. The only problem I had was getting the axel nuts off from the start. I didn't really have anything to use for leverage. The only thing I could find was this big *** metal 3in pipe that was about 12 feet long. It was some funny ****
well its now 3 40 am
we have the motor in, axles in, shiftlinkages in, header on and bolted, wheels back on... and we have given up,
next up tommorow, pick up throttle cable from acura, hook up my wires to the ecu, put on the vacumm hoses, put on the radiator hoses (trimmed them to short) and add the fluids...
the reason the fram is on ther is i have massive hand and its impossible for me to change the oil with out being able to grip that bitch.

Damn that sounds bad... why is your hand so big?!? hahaha... sorry...
Don't blame place racing because you didn't read the instructions first. Next time do your homework. It's always a good idea to know what you're doing before you start doing it...
After reading so many horror stories and witnesses friends cars sit for weeks upon unplanned weeks at a time it truly makes me appreciate how easy my Ls/Vtec went along. I had a Dx model even but it went so smooth, no complaints at all. I pulled the car in running with the single cam on tuesday at about 5 in the afternoon, had it out and the ls/vtec in with new gaskets and hoses by a little after midnight. Went to school the next day, got to work on it at about 3 in the afternoon, did the wiring conversion, make throttle cable bracket, etc on wednesday and by 11pm it was running great, drove it home that night, and to school on thursday and it's been treating me great for the last 2300 miles with the additon of gsr cams and FPR and some other little stuff. Think positive and definately double check your parts lists, luckily i had everything.
