why not go to your local car audio shop and actually listen to them. prople have different opinions on whats harsh. some people love focals, i think they sound like nails on a chalkboard.

hey ebp_si
youve commented in a few threads of mine and i've decided to take your advice and ditch my rear speakers. is there any special tuning methods needed to make the sound good what with the staging and all?

umm. well you're going to want to build some kick panels for several reasons. i like to put the midrange and tweeter close together this will eliminate a phase shift as the frequency changes. second putting them in the kick panel area will minimize the pathlength difference between left and right. this will minimize the amount of time alignment needed if any. third, when you're building the kick panels make them as big as you can, and as strong as you can. the thicker you make them the less colouration you'll get from the enclosure. use a spray deadener inside and all that kind of stuff.
the most important aspect to setting up your front stage is to be patient. it may take you several days to get the angle of the front speakers just right.
for more information about actually physically setting them up and building kick panels heres a great link. Audionutz on kick panels

you can make an mdf ring mounted on a sound deadened door and have that behind the stock grille. it sounded alright in my 97 civic coupe.

well the short answer is no. it wont sound horrible, but it is far from ideal and you will not come near to maximizing the potential of your speakers

Elemental designs has excellent customer service. I have the infinity reference 6.5, I like them, but would definatly not want them if I didn't have a sub. They are very clear.
yea their techs were really helpful. they had so much confidence in their product and garunteed no hassle if i didnt like it. on top of that they gave me a deal on other products i was planning on buying anyway so i thought i'd give em a chance
