Painting Valve Cover
Has anyone painted their valve cover? I'm looking to take my VTEC valve cover off and paint it red because the stock silver color is chipping off and the cover just needs a nice clean up. I'd rather go the cheaper way and paint it than have to spend $200 on a new cover.
Anodized? I don't know the price of having that done but I would figure powder coating would be easier, maybe cheaper and with more color options. either way....
If you prep it good and use high temp paint the paint shouldn't chip.
I painted the valve cover on my F22B1 years ago. Painted the VTEC and H symbol red and then painted the rest of the valve cover black. I sold it last fall I believe. But if you do it right, the paint shouldn't chip. Mine still looked good when I sold it.

I was thinking about sanding it just to get the excess paint that's chipping off, then use some of that high temp paint you mentioned. I may either do the "H" symbol and the VTEC part white and the rest of the cover red. Or how you did it, red "H" and VTEC and rest of the cover black. I actually like the silver "H" and VTEC and the rest of the cover black. But, I wont be doing this project until it gets nice out and stays nice out. Like this week its 60+ out, by the weekend its going to be in the 30's.
When i had my 87 acura integra i used regular spray paint put like 4 coats an it turned out really good it never chipped or melted just sand it down or if one of your buddies works at a body shop you can have them sand blast it. thats what i would do. im thinking about getting mine repainted its starting to chip also

I have just recently painted a valve cover on one of my other cars and it has turned out great. Here are the steps I followed to do it.
step 1. clean the valve cover
step 2. put aircraft paint stripper on it and let it sit for 15 minutes
step 3. wire brush the entire valve cover
step 4. repeat step 2 & 3
step 5. use a high heat paint with ceramic in it and paint the surface, make sure to simple green the entire valve cover before you paint it. Also make sure it's dry and the temperature conditions are good to paint.
step 6. after applying 3 light coats, put the valve cover in the oven and bake it for about 1 hour at 250 degrees
step 7. let it cool and it should be all good. it should be nice and shiny and wax it if you want to.
I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Just clean it, Take it off, Either Sandblaster ( Quickest)
or Get Aircraft Paint Stripper, not thinner stripper, youll know its stripper if u get it on ur skin and it burns like crazy..
let that sit for a while, scrape it all off with a wire brush, down to bare metal, then clean it with brake cleaner...
Then Get some high heat engine enamel and spray it on, nice even coats
Itll look great, cost you 10 bucks at the most, can of paint and paint stripper..
