Default CRX Replacement Driver Seat from Dealer

OMG, my dealer is charging me over 1k for a replacement back support and bottom cushion. Is there any other cheaper place where I can order these parts? My seats foam are all beat up, I tried bringing the seat to an upholstry shop and they all told me that there is little or none to fix the foams. For some reason, the SI seats foams have unique forms that the upholstry shop cannot duplicate. Anybody restored their seats and how? Let me know. Thanks

any pics.

im thinking of keeping my seats and just getting them redone its way cheaper than the dealer. **** thats like going to GM and asking them for something for a chevy belair and getting it for cheap lol. but i would like to see some example of redone crx seats that are not riced out to make me do this and not buy some expensive mint ones.

yea, i was looking at wes v.'s civic, it looks awesome, but i don't know if his foams are trashed like mine. I took off the cover and the foam just crumbles apart. It got to a point when I sit down, the metal wires are hitting my ***. I already visited 4 upholstry shop on my side, I might have to go downtown to visit some more.

you guys are lucky, mainland have a lot more shops than hawaii, plus its a lot cheaper to buy things for our car than here. Freight to Hawaii is a killer in our pocket.

not as much as before. our politicians sucks, racetrack was closed about a year ago, drifting was done at Aloha Stadium, but the neighboring residents complained about the noise. A lot of other people switch from building their honda's or nissans to VIP.....Lexus, Acura and Infinity's....like the G35.

An upholstery shop can cut and shape foam to duplicate the shape of your seats or "patch" them with other pieces of foam as well. Any decent shop will be able to do this for you. Not sure it'll be cheap though.

Interesting....seeing as how all Honda's entire inventory of EF replacement seat foam was sold out in 2000. They sold out of replacement covers in the 90's. So they have been either be making custom foam or modding other model seat foam to fix. Which is weird, my local dealer would just say the parts aren't available.....

For everyone with the knowledge are these shops able to match the exactly material of the seats as they came from the factory?

I assume you mean the fabric? I actually looked into re-covering my seats until I found some mint Si ones recently. Took one to a few upholstery places to see if they could match the fabric and for the most part they can match the "feel" of them, but you can still tell the difference, and the colors will be different than OEM. I guess it depends on the shop and what kind of fabric they use.

First off, here is a photo of my seats after I had them re-done;

The material that I had the shop use was close enough to stock that it's not really notable. I had the rear done also (along with the headrest). They added a small amount of foam to build it up slightly.

Here are a couple "facts";

You can not get material that is an exact match!

Even if you can buy the molded foam from the dealer, it will cost a ton!

An upholstery shop can create any shape you want out foam blocks. This is how it's done in custom hor rods!

See about using the foam from the passenger side. I don't think it's exactly the same, but is close.

When you have the seat apart for re-covering, inspect it for damaged welds and bad rivets!!!!! Honda did a crappy design on the pan anchorage (I'm a licensed Engineer) and they fail real easy. I've had to re-weld several of them! This has to be done while they are all apart so, have the upholstery shop strip down your seats while you wait. If there is any damage, get it fixed before going any further. If you saw the drivers seat pan on my first Honda, it would have scared you silly.

Wes

Yeah, nice stuff there Wes, I recently received a Sparco seat from my wife that she got a great deal on, but i will be rebuilding my stocks as well.

I actually have a friend who works for Honda in the R&D for Honda Optional parts, and I actually had him check just last week, all they had left in the way of seat parts is the fabric cover for the pass seat bottom.

So I will most likely be purchasing fabric from Sparco and having the seats redone in that material with wear patches added. If anyone want to use this idea feel free, the fabric is a bit pricey, but will last a long time.

JUST GO TO THE JUNK YARD AND GET THE CUSHIONS AND TAKE THEM TO THE UPHOLSTERY SHOP AND USE THAT AS YOUR REPLACEMENT.

I just replaced the foam lower portion of my Si seats. the 88-91 Dx seat foam is almost identical to the Si. Try finding a cherry Dx seat, take it to the upholstry shop and have them switch the skin. I did mine myself, it is possible. Theres all these metal rings holding the fabric to the inner wires of the foam. I don't have the special tool to make these little rings so when I put the Si seat cover over the dx foam I replaced all the rings with stainless safety wire. Seat looks brand new.

Wes, that is one nice set up. Once I get my car back from the body shop, I will take a good look on what to do with my seats. It seemed like the original owner was a big guy to make the foam get busted. I just got a cherry passenger side Si hatch seats. The driver side is still okey except for the worn out bolster fabric. I am thinking of swapping the pans and using the Si hatch seats for my CRX. Will post pics when I get my car back.

i got a quote from the local honda dealer of $460 for just the seat back on my HF, sure sounded like they still had the parts. lucky for me i found a set of Si seats on ebay.

Anyone else notice that Si seats sit higher than HF seats?
