You mean if the S2k doesn't have the engine in it right?

New cars are easier to get loans for.. Civic is more practical.. pretty fast and FWD.. oh and the LSD is so much fun.
S-2000 is a convertable, a little faster, and RWD..
All depends on what you're trying to do.. I went through this at the end of last year, and ended up with the SI sedan (trying to look like a grownup I guess)

I would say going with the si, I went throught this same situation before I bought my si. When it comes down to it the s2000 is faster, handles better, and its a drop top! But IMO the car is not practical to drive everyday, and does NOT get around very well in any weather besides sunshine. Also I would like to say if you get the si I assure you that you will NOT be disappointed in it's performance.
Insurance isn't a factor and the reason I ask because I love to drive but the only problem is the 4 seater vs 2 seater. Not like it's much of a problem but I just feel a bit weird to have a 2 seater which is used. I 'hear' that the si is a fun car to drive and so is the s2000.
I also see a '02 s2000 for $17grand w/ 50k miles from a dealer
Get the Si, it's a lot more versatile so you are less likely to have buyers remorse than going with something that could limit you.
In general, that would be a real tough question... BUT
It depends on what year S2000 you are planning to get. There are major, major differences between the different years of the S2000. Deff consider these... (taken from cg.com)
Changes From 2000-2006:
2001 Honda S2000: Floormats, a rear wind deflector, clock, and in-trunk emergency release became standard in the sports car's second season. Indy Yellow was a new color choice, too. Fewer than 5,000 S2000s were being built annually for sale in the U.S.
2002 Honda S2000: A glass pane with defroster took the place of the prior plastic rear window in the Honda roadster's power-operated soft top. The six-speed gearbox was reworked in an effort to provide smoother, quieter shifts. The interior gained extra aluminum trim and a restyled console, and a leather-wrapped gearshift **** replaced the previous alloy piece. Revised taillights held chrome rings. Suzuka Blue joined the color palette, and the stereo system gained power.
2003 Honda S2000: A tan interior was now available on white cars.
2004 Honda S2000: The S2000's engine grew from a 2.0 4-cyl, to a 2.2 liter in 2004. Also, 17-inch wheels now replace 16s, front and rear bumpers are restyled, and the S2000's suspension tuning got a revision.
2005 Honda S2000: Honda's sports car is unchanged for 2005.
2006 Honda S2000: An antiskid system is the main 2006 addition to Honda's sports car.
It doesn't seem like much, but S2000 had a **** load of problems with the plastic rear window and the 6-speed tranny til I think 2002. The car also changed its looks (semi) in 2004, which drove the price up for those newer models. IMO - I love the S2000, but nothing beats NEW CAR WITH NEW CAR WARRANTY!!!!!! Si

The majority of the people here will tell you to buy the SI because many of them (myself included) compared a used S2000 with the SI and chose the SI. Like said earlier, insurance, cabin space, and your area's weather all go into the equation. Also finding a used S2000 that meets your standards (both wear and price).
The answer to your question is:
Test drive both and decide.

the s2k is a better performance car period!! its faster, handels better, is a drop top and looks better.
the si performs well, is more practical to drive everday, holds twice as many people, has a much bigger trunk, can go on road trips. handels way better in bad weather, gets better gas millage.
i'm more of a performance person and i dont have a family and i would choose a used s2k any day of the week.
when it comes down to it do you want performance or something practical.
just get an evo and have more performance and a more practical car than both the s2k and si. thats what i did

Decide for yourself, why do you care what other people would buy?
