Default Checking my bore: Is this gauge ok?

Are the anvil sizes ok for checking the bore of my A6? (75mm)

Is it a good buy all in all? I've never bought engine machining tools before...

well, for general checking i would say go for it untill you think your ready to step up to the real bore gauges which go for about 3/500 used ( sunen, miyi, old central, brown &)

the problem with those is getting them to repeat redings, would not trust it more than to the .0005

Just get a $20 0-6" dial caliper. It will be good enough for you to check if your bore is std, 0.010, 0.020 over etc. Leave the precise bore measuring to your machinist otherwise you will just be creating headaches for yourself.

Okay, if you want to check for bore taper then you will need to use a bore guage. You can get a 2-6" bore 0.0005" resolution guage for about $60 - 80.

I just bought a guage similiar to that, different brand (Fowler) but looks identical. It has .00005" resolution (50 millionths of an inch) and is repeatable to .0002" I just got it/used it today and it works great and repeated right on the money. It also looks like I'm gonna have to send my block back

IMO the non digital ones are a little eaier to use and set. I would reccomend the Mitutoyo if you want a nicer one. I paid $200 for the Fowler I got and for the price and range it has I am very pleased.
