Default How to change out headlights...

Ok so I have projectors on my 88 CRX, and I just got a set of stock headlights to replace them with. I'm just wondering how you take the headlights out....? Thanks

there should be two bolts on the top of the headlights that bolt it to the radiator support, 1 bolt to the very bottom left ( if doing passenger side ) of the headlight, and one right in the middle just below the headlight (basically under the headlight) all are 10mm. sorry if this doesn't make sense, hard to explain in words

are you saying I should take it off to get to the ones underneath the light? How did you get to them with the bumper on? I'd prefer to do it without taking off the bumper, but if I have to do that, how hard is it to take off the bumper?

if your lucky, (since you have aftermarket lights) the folks that put the lights back on may have left this difficult lower bolt out, ive seen it.
ive taken my civics bumper off, its fairly easy . the crx its pretty similar. 2-3 phillips scews on each side in the wheel well. and a couple of bolts under the front of the bumper. the civic has 2 bolts at the top next to the lights, I know the crx is different probly similar though.

Ive gotten to these lower bolts off without removing the bumper, but it is very difficult, even when you know where they are

i've never tried to take my headlights out without taking the bumper off, but its easy once you take the bumper off, i imagine it would be pretty hard to get the bottom screw without taking it off.

just take the bumper off, take the front turn signals and side markers off. take the 2 phillips head screws in each of the fenderwells off and take the 2 bolts off behind each of the bumper lights and the bumper should come off you will have to lift it slightly up and bend the sides out before it will come off. Its much easier if you have a friend help. then you will see whats up with the headlights.

I just took a set of headlights off today. You pretty much HAVE to take the front bumper off, it will actually save you time in the long run. The bumper has two small screws on both sides in the fenderwells"pointing at your front tires". There are 3 or 4 screws on the top and usually 1 or 2 on the bottom. Then you just pop the front bumper off.

When you have the bumper off its easy to see how to remove the headlights. There are two"or one" screws on the bottom and two on the top. When you remove them it will remove the headlight and headlight housing. Good luck.

I think the best way of doing this is removing the front bumper, the screws will be easily accessible.

Well, here's what happened today. I got most of the bumper screws out, but I couldn't get the three by the hood latch, because they're rusty/frozen, whatever....I might try some PB Blaster but I doubt they're going anywhere. My rice headlights aren't even in brackets, and the passenger side is only held in by the one on the bottom of the headlight, and I can't get to it. I can't bend the bumper far enough....I might be able to stick something in there and turn it out, but then I'm wondering how I'm going to put my stock lights in....with no brackets. So now I have to do this with the bumper on

I don't think it's possible to mount headlights without any bracketry. Can you post pics of what your rice and OEM headlights look like?

On my 88 Rex the three large flat headed phillips screws (for lack of a proper name) that held the bumper on were rusted for me as well.

I eventually got them off using WD-40 and a good pair of vice grips, didn't muck them up too bad either.

what screws are you guys talking about? unless the crx's bumper is mounted differently there should only be two philips head screws in the fender some under the bumper for the plastic stuff, and two underneath the bumper lights.

maybe the 88-89's are different.

88-89's must be different then, I had three large flat philips screws on the top of the bumper right next to each inside corner of the headlights and one directly in the middle by the hood latch.

oh.. are you guys talking about those big *** philip head scres all along the bumper cover? if so . dont bother with those, they only hold the bumper cover on you want to take the whole bumper off.

1. remove the bumper lights
2. use a 12mm socket, slide through the bumper light gap and remove two bolts, placed vertically on top of each other. do the same for the other side.
3. remove the screws on the side holding the bumpers, by the tires, and pull the corners of the bumper off the brackets.
4. lift up the front of the bumper slightly and pull it out.

the next few steps to replace the headlights are as easy as ABC.

it's easier for some people to follow instructions written in a numerical format, and proper English as well.

Here are the stock headlights, sitting in my car...they are from a 90 or 91 I think, but they will still fit, right?

And the rice lights.

And a picture of my Rex just for the hell of it

I don't know how many times I have to say this.

THE RICE LIGHTS CAME ON THE CAR. I'VE HAD THE CAR MAYBE A MONTH AND A HALF. I DID NOT PUT THEM IN!!!!!!!!!!! I AM TRYING TO GET THEM OUT!!!!!!!!!

Otherwise, they do not "flap" or even move around. They are in there securely.
