Default Curb Damage:. Suspension Work Needed:. Suggestions on Parts:.

Well, so I had a little unfortunate incident. Luckily noone was involved and I am just fine. The only thing that is hurt is my caR. It was a little slick last week and heading through a empty parking lot, my R got a little squirrely. I know I was totally at fault, but I wish that curb I checked didn't punish me as bad. I have the KG/MM lowering springs on my ITR that makes it even closer to those damn hazards.

Well, so my damage: My driver's side rim sits more towards the door than centered. I have already ordered a lower control arm (Number 8)

And my lower lip needs fresh paint. I blew the tire off the bead of the rim, and took it to Discount Tire (never looked it totally over) and found out my cords were showing.... so no wonder I had no traction at all. So I picked up a couple of used tires there until I can decide which tires I want to go with for the track and daily driving.

But then to my surprise today while it was up on jack stands, I noticed my steering rack. The metal from the cylinder part of Number 11 (on the left hand side in the illustration) was separated from the gearbox part of Number 11.

I believe I need a new wheel bearing and probably a new hub. Acura Part #44300-S5A-004 and 44600-ST7-R00. Number 4 and 6. The wheel assembly has a little play in it.

So my question now.

Do I just order all OEM stuff? or Should I go and piece out some of the stuff like at AutoZone or Advance? This steering Rack is crazy expensive if it's a brand new one.

Does anyone have any suggestions here this late morning? I am trying to get this up and drivable by this weekend. Getting rides to work SUCKS!

p.s. After seeing the camber wear, I think I might be interested in a camber kit as well.

Here are the pics...

Pics of the Steering Rack:

The front of the car is to the left and that is the header connecting to the highflow cat.

IMO, I dont use non oem parts on the teg. I do however use them on my accord and have never had any problems, although I drive the two cars totally different.

Ryan, first I would definitely suggest OEM parts unless it is crazy expensive.

For tire wear, did you get an alignment after you lower the car? Camber does not eat tires NEARLY as bad as toe does. So if you have some camber (like -2 or so) and zero toe, tire wear should be fine.

As for wheel bearings, I don't think you need a new hub (number 6)? Unless your bearing is totally worn down and started grinding into the hub.

Thanks Wai! I actually do plan on getting all OEM parts, but the Rack and Pinion is fairly expensive. I think though a cheaper way to go about fixing this, is by purchasing the housing like I was stating earlier.

As far as whether I had an alignment after I added those springs, No, I gave it a drive and seemed to drive perfect without any pull at all. So I figured I would be fine, but that was also about 2 years ago and 2 HPDE's (MAM, and Gingerman).

The hub... now, I had my friend that's a tech at the local Acura dealership stop by last night and those were the parts he suggested replacing. I am uploading a few pics, but I never did take more than the rim off.

Pics are coming.

I just added some pictures... and I guess I messed up with the coding. Oh well, and sorry if some of those are sorta blurry, I'm in a hurry.

Damn empty parking lots! I had one get me too, although it got my rad support and radiator, no suspension damage. I felt pretty damn st00pid afterwords as well.

Did the front wheel spin as freely as usual and without wobbles? If so, I would wait on ordered a new wheel bearing and hub until you've replaced the LCA. You could've also damaged the knuckle, but you won't know until you go to align it most likely.

I'm not sure what you're describing as far as the steering rack. Can you take a picture of the damage itself?

Same thing happened to me, and I had to have the hub replaced and lower control arm. ~$400 at the dealer.

I am not sure about the wheel spinning as free as possible. But I do know that making a right hand turn is almost impossible without backup to make a 3-point turn.

Parking Lots < ***

Well, hopefully Delray Acura has my parts to me soon. I thought if I were to place my order by Noon... it would ship out same day. I don't think this is the case, because earlier today I still didn't have a tracking number, and I place the order just shy of Noon on Monday.

I will have a few more pics tomorrow, especially of that of the steering rack.

Is a Remanufactured Rack and Pinion from Acura a good idea, or is something else better? I know these are running $333 from Delray Acura.

Len, Sorry, but if you can get me a better price and get the items to me as fast for the same price or faster, I would definitely purchase from you. But I guess I will check to see if I got myself a tracking number from Delray.

Thanks everyone.

EDIT:
Hub + Bearing + Lower Control Arm + ReMAN Steering Rack = $715 shipped from DelRay Acura

I always use Honda OEM parts for the R but usually go with aftermarket OEM quality parts for my daily driver ('94 GSR) There are a lot reputable aftermarket parts out there, but I just cant bear to put them on the Type R.

Thanks for all the positive replies everyone! I just purchased an oem Steering rack and pinion from "jomama" from Kansas City.

Now, all I am in need of is a Hub and pressed in bearing... according to my friend that's a tech at Fort Wayne Acura.

Oh, and Advance Auto has a $51 pressed in bearing IN STOCK less than 2 miles away from me, I just don't know what brand it is.
One question... What do they mean when they keep saying "pressed in bearing"? I was under the impression I would have to press this into the hub myself or something... ???

Thanks!!!

Call Larry at import auto salvage. importautosalvage.com

You don't need ITR specific knuckle. Frankly, i'd doubt that you'd need a new hub either. Just buy a GSR/LS knuckle and complete LCA, and pick up a new wheel bearing from Acura/honda. Have a local machine shop press the hub/new bearing in the replacement knuckle.

I'd almost guarantee that larry has knuckle/lca in stock, and very reasonable.

Well, I got home tonight to find all my parts I found here on Honda-Tech from a member brand new. But to our surprise the parts are for the Passenger Side!

Man, can anything go my way?

Does anyone have Driver's Side suspension parts that can ship out tomorrow and near? errrr or anything?

So I have Passenger side Knuckle and LCA Lower Control Arm complete and brand new in honda packing. Let me know if someone needs one.
