ok, i have 2.5k miles on it now. 07 Si 4dr sedan. I've noticed that there are spots on the side skirt area in front of the driver side rear wheel that will not come off, as well as some sort of material marks, like someone put glue through t-shirt material to leave a 'print' on the paint in the same area. Also, on the back of the rear bumper, driver's side but not in the area where stuff kicks up, there are the same type of spots. They look almost like something has attacked the clear coat and made 'scars' on the clear, or even past that...
i've had hondas for 10 years, including my silver EK which @ over 200K at this point has never had an issue like that. I took it to a local well-respected detailer today and he said he'd take the car to the dealer because it looks like it was either 1. touched up (resprayed) and has failed or 2. the factory paint is defective. In 30 years of detailing cars, he said he's never seen that before....hard to believe, but he was serious.
i did notice a hint of silver speckles, fine mist on the trailing arm on that side. to me that is unusual...
what should i do? i mean, it is winter time, so they treat the roads when it shows it might snow, but this is not salt or anything like that. The car has not driven through anything weird, just the same route day after day with no hazards.
BTW, the spots DO not come off and are able to be felt. trust me, i've tried it all as did the detailer.

I think i have the same issue you do i have like these white dots on my passenger side mirror and and all above my door i am thinking its a paint issue. They will prob be dicks tho when i bring it in oh well i will let you know how is goes.
I dont have the same issue, but from what i've seen/read the paint on the new civics isnt exactly "excellent". My paint chips like an eggshell and swirls so easy its beyond belief.
anyway take it back to the dealer and go in with a strong attiude.

Unfortunately, I think this is pretty standard on the 06-07 civics. There are known issues about the poor factory paint, and numerous posts you could research here and on 8th. I believe someone told me that Honda paint is water based and most other brands are acrylic based (can anyone confirm this?). Either way, it sucks, chips easily, and unfortunately there isn't much we can do about it.
I figure on letting my hood chips accumulate for a long time and then going carbon fiber. And when the chips on the front bumper and side skirts get too bad, I'll upgrade to the lip kit
Kinda sad that it has to be this way though...

i ended up going to the local dealer instead of the one where my car was sourced from, simply because of logistics.
The body shop manager peeped it, and said it's very odd, but definately a factory defect because the damage is actually partially under the clear little protective piece (like a 3M star-shield piece) on the rocker...
He took the report and presented it to the service manager, who was going to arrange a meeting with the Honda rep, but he said this is undisputable and since they have pictures, they will roll forward with the repair and submit it to Honda as a warranty claim w/o me having to see the rep.
They said the only reason at this point that the rep would want to see it is not because of whether or not it'd get fixed, but just to simply see it since it's so unusual. The rest of the car is flawless, so it seems pretty isolated...
so, i guess i'll set something up with them, they said it's a 2 day MAX job and Honda will provide a rental vehicle for the downtime.
Not bad i guess, i'm pretty happy with the outcome so far.
PS- if you have to get that area of your car repaired, and the little clear protective piece doesn't show up on the parts blow-up, it's because it's on the floor pan blow-up and not the exterior/side skirt/rear quarter blow-up. Just a tip because that piece has been rumored to be non-replaceable (not serviceable), but it is.

you can see the weird material look to some of the marks. whatever makes up those spots is also making up those patterns too. it's like etched in the paint, but supposedly it's worked from under the paint up, not on top of the paint in. Hard to say but you can also see it under the clear protective piece; it's like that material pattern there too...
Ever since the safety ***** made car manufacturers go to water based paints, car paint has been ****. It is not just a Honda specific problem, pretty much every new car has crappy paint durability from the factory.

so i get a call from the dealership where i took the car to have the warranty paint work done. as i suspected, my brand new car had been repaired previously...
here is a short breakdown of the histroy of the car so far-
the car was purchased through a local broker who has been here since the 70's. We've gotten countless cars through him. He sourced the car from Rossi Honda in Vineland, NJ, who sourced the car from Turnersville Honda, also in NJ. Evidently silver 4 door si's were not all that common...
it could have been repaired from some sort of incident in the yard in Canada, it could have been repaired when it was taken off the truck or put on the truck, who knows. It could have even been hurt at the factory and repaired there. the problem is there is no paper work on this and noone disclosed it to us. I guess that's ok if it's not detectable, but this is not only detectable, it caused paint to fall off of my car in two areas of the vehicle. In fact, the manager told me that it's a gray area whether or not Honda would cover the new work i just had done to fix it, since it was previously damaged. Doesn't matter much i guess because they did cover it, but now i have a car that as supposed to be brand new, but has previous damage.
Who knows how bad it was? Why did noone tell anyone about this, so someone could disclose to me?
It's pretty aggravating i guess, mainly because i've had to spend so much time chasing down these paint gremlins, taking it to people for opinions, taking it to a dealer 2 hours total away and then taking it to the closer dealer to get it looked at, then not having the car, etc only to find out it's because of someone not telling me the damn thing was hurt at some point before ANYONE owned it.
and what's to say that this won't occur again on another part of the vehicle? again, how bad was the initial damage? it'd be NICE TO F'N KNOW THAT MUCH AFTER DROPPING 22K!

nah, it was underneath the clear protective strip and underneath the clear working it's way outward, most of the spots had found their way past the clear...
many times the protective sheets cause some sort of collection under the clear that can be 'cleaned up' with a heat gun. They tried that, in fact they tried everything before refinishing it and were forced to take it down and refinish it. It came out great, but i'm still up in the air about the other info. My broker said he'd take the car back and get me another one, but it looks so good at this point i dunno if it's worth the hassle...
