exhaust tip cutoff
hi all,
I have a stock exhaust for my 96' lying in the garage and i wanted to know if it will be alright for me to cut off the 6-7" (not sure about the length) tip and leave just like 2 inches? I want to attach an aftermarket one on, but this one is just a screw on.
So i'm just wondering whether or not it will affect the exhaust in anyway with the cutoff.?

if you cut it off you'll have a little stub sticking out of the muffler. How does the new tip screw on to it? Maybe I'm not understanding what you are stating, but when I cut a factory tip off, I usually weld on another one. I've never seen a tip that screws on.
well basically, the new tip that i'm looking at is about 3.5" in diameter or 3". There are screws at the back of the new tip so you can just screw it tight against the orginal tip of the exhaust(the new tip will cover the whole tip) . But if i do that , then you could see that there is a 2.5" inch tube in the middle of the new tip, and that makes it look funny.
ok, i would have it welded on because the I believe the screw will eventually loosen up while you're driving. What you could do is get a 2.5 in to 3 in exhaust step which can be welded to your stock stub, then to the new tip that you have. I believe they sell those "step up's" at Autozone. Good Luck.

imagine a pipe about 8 inches long 2.5 inches in diameter on one end then it increases in size to a 3 inch diameter on the other end. best I know how to describe it.
