Default 200+ WHP

What will it take? I have my engine pulled and apart. Im about to order some **** and would like some direction. Im sure this was posted before so sorry if it was. So I you have over 200whp with out power adders, what do you have done? I have some ideas. So heres my plan. JDM ITR pistons, thin head gasket, skunk 2 manifold, jdm itr 4-1 header, valve springs, cams, injectors, fuel rail, ECT. I just dont wanna order a bunch of **** if I wont need it. let me know. I was also thinking of a turbo but I read alot of post saying to steer clear unless you have a lot of internals. Also my R is just a weekend driver, so i want it to be reliable

Well, I'm at 192 WHP and I "could" do more.

My mods are mugen head gasket, Mugen intake, SMSP header (1 piece) SMSP race exhaust (not recommended at all for your setup) and hondata S300 EMS. Tuned by LHT performance in Tampa. That's it.

If it weren't for rules, I would extrude hone the intake mani and go up to some JDM ITR pistons, or something very similar. In your case, you could do it without internal mods. But since your already there, a mild port and polish and some JDM pistons wouldn't hurt.

In any case, it can be done with quality parts without internal mods. If you there and want to anyway, or are rebuilding due to rings/wall conditions then I say go for it.

If you are going to get new pistons and your budget is big enough, you might want to look into forged pistons and rods for even more power . I know I should have, haha.

200whp isn't a hard task. You just have to select the right components that work well together.

I know I've posted this graph before...but very simple build with great parts that work well together:

Not to sound dumb, but where can you get M22's? I can't seem to find them anywhere.

I'm in the same boat you are though... I'm gonna put in JDM ITR pistons (25 over) and a thin headgasket, and some sort of header, either SMSP or Toda and hope that I can break the 200 mark.

200whp and turbo is piece of cake.. keep it around 275whp and it will be reliable and much less internals that you would need in a n/a build. forged pistons/rods is all you really need as far as non oem stuff goes inside the engine. i would recommend arp headstuds but thats all you need. no cam gears/camshafts/retainers.. everything you got inside itr is fine for that much hp except for pistons rods but some even go that far on stock internals

I hear stories about turbos. I was thinking that then I read some posts no to go there. So you think forged pistons and rods would make it a reliable street car with a turbo? Im open for all ideas. I have ordered anything yet.

I paid 1350 for the entire setup. IIRC $1200 of it was the header alone.

Dave now has other "newer" versions of this header. You may want to contact SMSP directly since they offer mild steel, stainless steel, 1 piece, 3 piece, coated. There are several various options you can go with.

HTH.

I have noticed that with all the M22x dynos I have come across they do not produce that much torque. Is that just a situation where all the car did'nt have the rightpackage to bring out the cams potential, or is it just the expected output of the cam.

i thought m22xx is too aggressive for 11:1 compression and m22x would be a better choice

IIRC, the only difference between the M22X and M22XX is one has a single large primary (X) and the other has two large primaries (XX) similar in design and profile to the Skunk2 Pro-1/2 cams. Dialing in idle is a little trickier, but you will see better midrange numbers, but identical VTEC lobes.
