was trying to remove the front bumper today to find that the only way to get to the screws to the bumper is to take out the center piece.

i'm driving a 88 civic hatchback (ef9)? and i was going through the process when i noticed there were two bolts on the inside of the headlights. i tried removing the headlights by taking two bolts off the top and one bolt off the side where the corner lights are but they will still not pop out.

what am i missing? thanks in advance

 

To remove the bumper, you remove the bumper turn signals (one phillips head screw on each), remove any screws on the rear edges of the bumper cover in front of each wheel well (2 screws per side), remove any bolts holding the bumper cover underneath the car (I think there are 2?), then undo the four 12mm bolts behind the bumper signals that hold the bumper support onto the frame. Don't try to separate the cover from the support while it is on the car.

Once you remove the bumper, you'll see how to remove the headlights (there is another bolt underneath).

 

there's a small mistake i made in the last posting. it's a 89 not a an 88 civic hb. there's a center panel that prevents me from getting to the stop screws of the bumper and i'm trying to remove that center piece between the headlights and the bumper to remove the bumper.

there's one bolt near the radiator two bolts on the inside of the headlights and four total on the outside of the car (two on each side).
