Default smaller OEM type fuel filter

I'm in the process of a redoing a bunch of things on my car, one of which was moving my Zex control box up the firewall a few inches when i had my engine out. I can't remember why i did that, but i'm sure I had a good reason at the time. Then today i went to put the fuel filter back on, and of course it won't fit anymore.

Long story short, are there any fuel filters that will fit in the OEM bracket that are, say, a half inch shorter? I just need it to not hang down so far, and I'm really not too keen on spending a bunch of money for a good inline filter and all the hardware that goes along with that.

Could you slide the fuel filter just a little higher up inside the bracket?

not easily. the bracket has a little indentation that accepts the shape of the lip at the top of the filter. moving it up in the bracket would at a minimum require some cutting and grinding.

i ended up spending too much on an inline setup using parts from the 17 page thread on doing such a thing. I may post pics when i get everything in.

how about put the filter on upside down? or redrill the bracket so you can mount it upside down. I dont think the fuel will mind being upside down although you might make it a little dizzy.
