looking to upgrade my door and rear pod speakers with something nice but affordable. only problem is that with our hatchbacks the door speakers mounting depth is only about 1.75. i really want alpine but there 6.5s mounting depth is like 2in or more. what do you efers run in the doors with an emphasis on sound quality? any help is apprieciated. thanks. BTW ive been considering infinity.
I like my Pioneers. Going to get another set for the rear when I get my hatch cover and install the brackets for that with the speaker pods in them.
You know I am running some cheap kicker KS 6(something) in my girlfriends civic and they sound really nice using amplification however, 60-75 watts rms, make them sound real good, but running off the head unit might sound good too.
I only have two Eclipse speakers... http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm...il.do
They have awesome loud-sound quality, but lack bass... this is easily fixed by getting a sub. They are really nice if you have a sub though, crystal clear sound even at high volumes.

I have some 90 dollar kenwoods with a pioneer deck. I had to drill a hole in the speaker cover to fit the tweeters since they are dual voice speakers. Mine sound really good, had them almost two years and still kicking. Don't just upgrade speakers, while you are at it you should change out the speaker wiring etc. but you probably already know that.
take 3/4 inch mdf and make 6.5 speeker rings mount the rings to teh door and wah lah you can fit just about any compnet you want i have the kicker rs 6.5's and there verry nice. my set up is this way and there is no trouble with the speeker grill fitting over.

I use the OE door speaker seal brackets, empty. They match up pretty well with my OE radio delete plate and OE antenna delete cap.

alpine type R 6.5" speakers will fit and they have a big magnet-- just use the 1/4" spacer that comes with the speakers and the magnet will not hit the window.

infinity reference 6012i and 6012si from crutchfield.com. I have the 6.5 in the door (i made custom brackets out of plywood cause i like projects, just so that the tweeters didnt bulge the grill, it isnt required) and 6.5 shallow mount in the rear. Crutchfield will give the rear 6.5" rear adapters free for your car. I have these for my rex and love them. Loud as hell and clear as far as you can crank em. WARNING: NO BASS!! i have an 8" bazooka tube for that though so...
I guess the infinity reference 6022i have bass? cant say for sure though...
i bought my regular references for $60 a set

i agree 99.9% only because my Eclipse 6.5 3ways (in the front doors) sound great but also have great bass, only thing is you cant turn the bass up on them alot without amping them first or else they make a popping noise.
good thing i got the 4 year warrantee! lol. but as far as the sub being a sufficient source of bass? well thats obvious. pretty much all im saying is that these speakers are great for the price and im sorry but jeez are they loud for just the 2 front ones. i have a dx model hatch wich diddnt come equipped with the rear speakers
