New sleeved block smoking like crazy!!
My buddy got his block from AEBS with sleeves and we assembled the motor last night. We cracked the #2 cylinder wall last month and he decided to sleeve the motor and re-assemble it ourselves. So he bought new ACL bearings, new piston rings for his Je pistons and head gasket. After putting everything back together, we started up the motor and it ran fine, but when the car warmed up it started to smoke alot from the exhaust. We figured it was steam cause it was so cold last night. So we went around the block and came back and man it was like a smoke machine! It had a sweet smell so its burning coolant. We took out the plugs and they're wet and the tops of the pistons are wet too. Don't think its the head gasket, we put on a new one. Could it be a warped head? Any ideas what it could be?
Forgot to state its a AEBS sleeved B18C1 motor, 9:1 JE pistons 81.5mm, eagle rods, arp head and main studs

Did you have them add o-rings? Why would the head be warped? Did he have some overheating issues before? If he was overheating and continued to drive the car its possible that the head warped.

No o-rings, but when we blew the motor we had to drive about 1/2 mile to exit off the freeway and onto the side of the street. Might have overheated while driving that 1/2 mile.
My buddy dropped off the block at AEBS, don't know if they do it or have someone else do it.

look into the other possibilities such as the cylinder head as mentioned. only way to find out is to pull out the head and check the gasket and head.

did you make sure to install the rings in the correct place?? also my motor smoked for a good bit after we put it together. i thought we had did something wrong but it just went away little by little and now its gone.

Installing the rings in the correct place has nothing to do with his problem. No coolant should be in the cylinders at all. If it were the rings he would be burning oil, not coolant. Its hard to say if you could have warped the head driving a 1/2 mile. Like the other guy stated only real way to find out is yank the head.

Did you read his post? He installed a brand new head gasket so I assume its highly unlikey thats his problem. He needs to pull the head to determine if the head is warped.

That comment wasn't really necessary. People make stupid mistakes and I am sure you have made some yourself, unless of course your the best. Should of would of could of. He is asking what his potential problems could be, not for people to tell him how stupid he is for not resurfacing the head. Its a costly mistake that I can assure you he will not make again.

I wasn't calling him a dumbass . I was quoting a dude that said "your a dumbass" it should have been "you're a dumbass" . So in reality he's the dumbass. LOL
Props for standing up for peeps.

There could be a nasty colant and oil mixture in your exhaust system , and once it gets hot it is burning off , do to the fact that it was driven while it was blown up , But it would have ben a good Idea to surface the head ,
the head could be warped. i've worked with a couple freshly built engines and they smoked for a little bit due to having to wait for the rings to seat but if your getting your plugs wet you maybe pusing some coolant. do the plugs or pistons look green or blue at all? also is the engine boosted at all right now?
My friend took off the head and took it to a machine shop. The guy there said it could be the block and not the head. Could the AEBS sleeves be leaking?

x2.....
when you put two surfaces together, such as a head and block, and them to be flush with each other, please explain to me what in the hell good it would do to have one flat and the other warped?

Was a strait edge used across the deck of the block.Poss sleeves not strait or below the deck.If it was driven while overheating poss antifreeze in exhaust.

Well the machine shop should be calling soon for the news. Not sure if this is any help but the surface of the block "feels" smooth, can't feel any edges from sleeve to block.
