Default hybrids and insurance

having too many problems with the teg. looking to start what i wanted to in the first place. my question is, what do you tell your insurance when you swap a motor into a civic. It's a jdm type r motor, so there is no vin bla bla bla. Should I tell them and let the rates go up, will they insure it knowing its a jdm motor, will they ask for receipts or vin #'s? How much will the rates go up?? If the car is stolen, and I didnt tell them about it, will they pay for it if I provide detailed pics and receipts?

**** it...I have never told them about my 2 civics with different motors than came stock....of course, I don't really want to find out that they won't cover me when I get in an accident. Oh well....liability only on a 92 cx for me is $700 (6mo), I would hate to see what it is if they find out about the motor in this and my EX Probably more than I make in a year

Depends on the insurance company. With Geico, they expect you to notify them of "modifications" in excess of $1000.

They WILL increase rates - this is known.

Other insurance companies have been hit or miss. They MAY or MAY NOT pay the real value of the car. They WILL NOT pay to restore to modified condition. They will pay to restore to stock.

Only way to be totally safe is to call your insurer, but be assured there's a good chance they will raise your rates, or even possibly cancel your coverage under your current policy, under the "racing" provisions of your policy.

yea, if you change the motor dont say anything. the only thing i would notify them of is non speed mods.

e.x. brakes, rims, interior, system
