Default PLEASE HELP vtech doesnt kick in..

i just got a phone call from my boyfriend and he told me that his vtech doesnt kick in at 5600 rpm and he cant rev any higher than that and his car starts bogging out.
what could be the problem? Please help so i can call him right now, because he's on a long drive and has no access to a computer.
Thanks.

Um, that could very well be the problem. Who did the oil change? Did they do everything correctly?

Reason the above poster suggested that, is if the oil level is low, and the pressure cannot build high enough, Vtec will not kick in.

Does your valve cover have a hyphen in it?

I do believe it's actually VTEC

We have a winnar

Many ITRs use oil while driving and since he's on the highway he might have used / burnt some. Time to check the amount.

makes no difference if its usdm or jdm. both are high revving honda motors. and just because your vtech is cutting in and out does not mean you need to change your oil. just add some and make sure its at the full mark on the dipstick.

oil jet squirtters + high rpms = oil consumption.

better watch his levels, otherwise he will have to forkout 4500$ for a new engine

Do all of you guys have this oil consumption problem to some degree?

I drove my car pretty hard this past summer and I didn't lose a drop. Seriously, I fill it with exactly 4L of Mobil 1 and change it every 4-5K ... not a drop burned.

Everyone I know with a type R has had consumption problems to some degree. Some are way worse than others. Mine lives a fairly rough lifestyle and I actually carry a quart of oil with me at all times. And I only drive my car on the weekends.
