Default Need help with ECU

I have a '96 civic DX with a manual transmission.

I have pulled the engine and replaced it with a d16y7 from a '00 civic DX (I kept the manual trans from the '96 in there)

So my problem is, the wiring on the '00 d16y7 engine is OBD2, and the ECU I have for it is an automatic.
The ECU I have from the '96 civic is OBD1 but is for a manual.

So what should I do, here are my 4 options?

Option 1: Can I pull all the wiring from the '96 D16Y7 and re-wire the '00 engine so it will plug into the '96 OBD1 ECU?

Option 2: Get a conversion harness so the '00 D16Y7 engine can be plugged into the '96 manual ECU.

Option 3: I've read that its possible to change the '00 ECU to change it from an auto to a manual with some well placed solder or jumper changes. If so any have a link to a how-to?

Option 4: Just buy a new ECU that will play happy with the OBD2 motor and the manual transmission.

Anyone have an opinion on what move I should make? Some pros and cons to each option? Or possibly some better options?

both are obd2...
96-98 is obd2A
99-00 is obd2B

just use the original ecu...
everything should wire to the engine the same...

Get a OBD2a to OBD2b jumper harness, i think they are about 140 dollars. thats alot. so like diggitydog said, your original ECU should run the motor fine.

the '96 ecu and the wiring from the '00 engine do not have the same plugs. So I cannot just use the original ECU. So if I get a conversion harness so they can plug into each other it should all work?

Which plugs arent the same?? Wait, are you using a 00 harness??
I know the ecu connectors are different, but every single thing on engine should be identical

correct, I am using the '00 engine harness, should I simply change this to the '96 engine harness and then use the '96 ECU?
Are there any differences in the engine harness between the 96 d16y7 and the 00 d16y7?

that or just get a 00 DX ECU. Probably like $60

Now this makes sense...
Thats a key point as to why youre having trouble.

You already have the 96 harness...use it.
No point in buying anything else.
It will connect the same up to the 00 engine (just use the 96 distributor too) and the ecu

ok so current plan, swap the '96 engine harness onto the engine.

What reason do I need to change the distributor out to the '96 one instead of leaving the '00 one on?

Are there any other differences that I will need to change?

Gotta say, my first swap from d-series to b-series in my '00 hatch went so much easier

The dizzys are different from obd2A to B - the plugs anyways.
Other than that, you should be ok...

Obd2 sucks in so many complicating ways...

Thanks all

I'm really just trying to build a car to get rid of my left over d-series from when I swapped to the B. Need to get this car done super fast so I can get back to working on the real project EK, and possibly a new winter car project (driving a low car in the snow blows)
