Default OT: Video about car theft - must see

First off, Mods sorry for my second OT post in one week but I want the ITR community to watch this video about car theft and see how people watching do nothing about it.

I bet people looked the other way, just like in this video, when some peoples R got stolen too.

Generally people just don't want to get involved. Maybe for fear that it might take time out of their busy day . It is a shame really

Watched that last night. It's amazing how many people turn a blind eye to things like that.

call the police dumbass.

if someone was smashing a window like that, and ANYBODY off the street started yelling "hey get away from my car" or something like that, a real thief would most likely run.

It's not entirely surprising.

It seems the more suspicious you make it look, the fewer suspicions you arouse. As stated in the segment, people tend to think, "Nobody would be dumb enough to do something like that openly."

Best thing to do is call the cops. If you yell something like, "Hey, ************, get away from that car!" the theif will just split and find another car to steal. Calling the authorities with a description of the car and the theif is better, because hopefully they'll catch the guy with stolen property.

The question is, will the police respond? That's something the Dateline segment should have examined.

I can see why people would assume he's merely locked out, and why no one actually physically confronted him. But the mere fact that no one dared to even call local authorities is simply, MIND BOGGLING.

I know Americans tend to mind their own business and keep to themselves (not a bad thing in some cases) BUT DAMN (!)

Anyone see the other part of the video ? Where he's attempting to break into a house even as much as shaking the hand of the housing-commition president (the same douches that fine people for bouncing a basketball around in the day time) and asking him when the owner would be back, in pondering if he had enough time to steal his property ?

I fear for all.

As Yoshi stated, be PROACTIVE. I watch "It Takes a Thief" when I can (Discovery Channel 5pm Central) and it can be shocking at how easy you can break into a house in broad daylight.

So, take action, don't assume. Of all places this forum should have the best understanding of the consequences. Don't depend on me, but if I can I'l help you out.

idunno ithink its because, the way he was acting, it just unreal. people expect a car theife the be secretive about what there doing.

i know if i see a guy trying to hide the fact that hes trying to get into a car, then id prolly call the police, but if i see a doode breaking a window with a big *** rock id just laugh and walk on.

also, i think it depends like, how old the person is thats doing it. if its a teenager, i bet people would question him or call the police.

I guess this goes back to one of the best things the actor sad in the video: "What is a car thief SUPPOSED to look like?" We're all caught up in the image we fail to realize the act itself.

What you kinda saying is if you saw a kid you knew talking to a stranger with a suit on it would be ok but if the person was all shady looking you would be concerned.

i dont think its suprising at all.. i dont think it was realistic setup.. i think anyone seeing that would just assume its a pissed off owner in a rush.. now if it was setup and the person acting like a real thief would act in that situation i think it would have been a very different outcome.. what car thief walks around with a huge cement block.. a real thief would know what he is doing and definetly isnt drawing attention to himself like that..

put a guy in all black with a slim jim going car to car trying to steal one and i garuntee you will have a better result.. shoot, even a guy breaking in real quick and pulling the cd player then running would get calls to the cops more than that bogus setup the had..
