Default infamous 3RD gear problems but w/06DC5

2006 RSX-S -so, i have had my tranny replaced all ready at 12000 miles, cuz it was making some weird noises and shifting weird after i had my clutch serviced cuz it was really noisy and causing some firm shifting.but the new tranny was doing good, shifting was smooth and just now at 20000 miles, my third gear has been giving me trouble. When i am slowing down, and i down shift, it will go into gear, and then when i release the clutch it pops back out!!! wuts up with that!!! and sometime when i am up shifting thru the gears like normal, it will be hesistant to engage and i gotta push the clutch in again before it will fully engage. Any idea wut to do? i think its my clutch, but i dunno, i take me car in tomorrow, dont want all those parts going on and off and on, cuz it loosens everything and what not. But i know my friends car,05 DC5 S has an occasional third gear pop out, but thats from shifting fast, but his clutch is so firm, like it has good tension to push it in and it feels really secure, ever since my new tranny went in, my clutch feels so easy to push in, and its like pushing air, its so easy, i feel like its something with the clutch, but i dunno, wut ya'll think? i only say that cuz i got a new tranny with less than 9000miles,and no trouble till now. Any ideas? i appreciate any feed back to solve my issue, or if u have had a similar expierence. Thanks so much to all the DC5 owners. Keep the VTEC going!!!!

Your third gear issue has been discussed on clubrsx.com. Here's an example of a discussion:
http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=459262

I had the third gear "wall" issue with my Type S. It would happen to me a couple times a day. Very annoying. The dealer changed the shift linkage, but it didn't help at all, otherwise they were unsure. About 3,000 kms ago, I had my tranny fluid changed to Amsoil synchromesh and I haven't had a problem since. The Amsoil stuff worked really well.

As for your clutch feel, I'm not sure but I think it might have something to do with the installer. A fellow autocrosser and I have the same drivetrain mods, including an Exedy Stage 1 clutch. I had a shop do mine, and he did his own install. My clutch needs a little more effort than stock, but his feels rock hard to get the pedal all the way down.

Hope that helps!

I have a 2004 RSX-S that doesn't like to go into thrid gear much... I bought it used but last time I serviced it, the Acura dealership repaired a bunch of stuff under warranty. Do you think I should try to have something fixed, or try the AMS Oil idea?

I would recommend giving the Amsoil a try first before and see if that helps. It's much less trouble than going with major transmission surgery first.

Personally, I wasn't expecting much, but for me it helped a great deal. Shifting is a lot smoother in the cold winter mornings too compared to the stock MTF.

however, your results may vary.

I had your exact problem...everything you described i had with the 3rd gear. i own a 03 type s. the problem happened when i was test driving the car at the dealership, i jus thought it was my driving because i was used to auto. i purchased the car and noticed it was continously happening even with my friends whom drive gti's,wrx's. something was up with the tranny. i took it in and them mechanic said its a common problem. because my car was under warranty they replaced 4 gears, new clutch, new flywheel, bearings, bolts the whole deal man i cant remember this was a while back. but they did over 2 grand of work for free. And i havent expierenced the problem ever since. i would highly reccomend taking it to the dealership if you have a warranty still.

Acura Kearny Mesa.....San diego basically is where my car was purchased then serviced.

it seems to only happen when i dont press down all the way on the clutch but when ever iam racing it doenst pop out ... especially when i smash it into gear ... i hear that other cars like 300zx have to same kind of problem and grind to on third ... maybe its because all our power is in that gear ... havent you noticed how hard our car pulls when you hit third ... in a race i can be a couple cars back and when i pop it in i fly right by ... not sure what to say but it doesnt happen to often to me so i dont even bother with it to much ...
