i am looking to eventually do a B16 swap in my 88 crx but i want to make sure that a jdm engine will be smog legal before i do this. If it is not then i will just go to B16A2 but i would much rather use the B16A because it is cheaper. Does anybody know if the JDM B16A is smog legal in california?
I appreciate any help.

 

as long as you have a cat u should be good, and use the stock ecu. my jdm b16a passed here in ohio, but I dont kno since cali laws are diff. just a little imput

In short, if the proper steps are taken, the JDM first gen b16 can be CA smog legal in your crx.

 

so all i have to do is make sure all of the proper smog equipment is on the motor and it should be good?

 

You need to see the State Referee and change from OBD0 to OBD1, and quite a few things like the ECU, dizzy, intake manifold and I think I might be missing some other things.

Or you can get a smog from HT member hazw8st or something like that, he can make it so you never have to get your car smogged again.

 

you need to change dizzy,ecu,manifold,have a 4wire o2 sensor, cat converter, obd-1 ecu, and obd-1 throttle body.. as long as you have everything almost the same as the b16a3 which is from a 95 del sol si b16 vtec.. then it will pass smog and be legal cops can tell you ****.. *** u pigs

 

what the hell does dizzy stand for. is it distributor? or something else because i have seen it but i have never figured out what it stands for.

Yes, dizzy is distributor.

 

hahah i remember when i first joined and everyone wasl ike dizzy this dizzy that, and im like wtf is a dizzy,

 

lol i had to do some research on dizzy when i first join ht and then i said oh distributor duh, but about that smog cant help you there
