Default CV Boot

I had an alignment done and the mechanic told me that the CV Boots were cracked. He proposed to replace the whole axle instead of just the boot. Is this a common practice? Currently there is no noise when turning.

Also is this one of those items that over time you should replace anyways or as long as they greased they should go forever?

yes this is common...axles dont last forever unfortunately...overtime the boots can crack causing popping and things of that nature...if what he says is true then you would want to go ahead and replace the axles so you dont end up hearing all those god awful noises after a while.how long have you had the axles on there for?

Thanks for the quick reply.

As far as I know they are original and I just turned over 90,000 last week.

No problem
well I highly doubt they are original cuz axles dont really last 90000 miles..im not exactly sure how long they last but if I were you...Id jack your car up and inspect the boots for yourself..just look for cracks or any kind of hole in the boots and if there is..get them replaced

my right front axle went out around 70k.

I went ahead and replaced both, cost me about $180 in parts.
