Alright, im in the middle of pulling the full trailing arm/brake assembly off my wrecked 95 sol VTEC, and I CANT get the 14mm bolt in the front of the trailing arm. Actually, I could get either one. I tried the one bolting everything to the car and I tried the one bolting the trailing arm to the peice that goes to the car.

I worked last nite and could get it, so I lubed it up real good and I still cant get it. What is this things problem?

I'd really love some help. I'd like to get both sides off today.

I nearly pulled a hatch off the jack stands yanking and kicking on one of those.
Air Tools are worth their weight in gold.

So you mean you tried the bolts holding the compensator arm to the chassis and the one holding the trailing arm to the compensator arm? I'd have to say the two holding the compensator arm to the chassis are easier while you're under the car.

I hope you're using a breaker bar with a pipe on the end of it to break it loose. If you are and still can't get it loose, I'd recommend you start hitting the gym

i had one like that, i finally got it loose, and it turned out the bolt was fused to the bushing in the trailing arm..... i cranked on it til the alignment nut inside the frame came out of the rail, and fell into the unibody. Needless to say that was a cut and weld nightmare.

 

Yeah ive been hitting and kicking.

And EKcivicEX, hitting the gym isnt a problem for me haha.

solerizr yeah, I already fucked up that bolt you were describing, but I cant get the one holding the the compensator arm to the trailing arm.

I cant get an air gun in there, otherwise I would.

Ive been kicking it, hitting it with a hammer, and still nothing.

 

Those things are in there real good. I broke 2 14mm sockets trying to get them off of my wife's civic.

It's not that bad, same thing happened to me. The bolt froze into the metal ferrule and ended up twisting the rubber bushing to shreds so then the rubber and bolt was twisting inside the front toe adjustment arm (the short one that connects the trailing arm to the subframe). If you have a grinder you're all set. Just cut off the bolt somehow, get the toe adjustment arm out. Then take the grinder and cut a square hole in the bottom of the frame whrere the toe adjustment bolt threads into. Grab the carrige slider, put it back in the channel, and bolt up the new assembly. I never welded the square piece back in and it seems fine, but i'm sure it wouldn't hurt to weld it back up. But i figure that piece of the assembly isn't put under that much stress. Just use a grinder FTW!

 

Yeah no ****. Idk what im going to do, maybe jack it wwwayyyyyy higher and get a REALLY long breaker bar. Im a bit nervous about coming off the stands tho, the car has already moved enough from the kicking.

 

Well, I dont have a grinder, and Id prefer not to be hacking up everything.

 

get a air ratchet 20 bucks at home depot

 

if the car is toast, can't you just grind the bolt off?

 

It wont fit, Theres hardly enough room for a 14mm wrench.

 

You can try penetrating oil and letting it sit and adding some more every couple of hours and let it sit overnight. Then try it the next day.

Might need air tools though.

I guess I'll jus keep oiling it up and keep on trying.

cut it with a torch it its a wrecked car. or if a sawzall will fit, you could use that, but make sure you're using a6 point socket or else you're more prone to counding the head off of the bolt.

Nahhh, no cutting. I finally got it. I ended up bruising one of my hands, but its finally off.
