I've noticed in a few 96-00 civics that the hood pull breaks off. Min just so happened to break off the other day. What the hell do I do? Is there anything you guys replace it with anything different or just live with it, and hood pins are out of the question b/c they look like crap to me...
You mean the handle in the inside of the car? That thing breaks if you don't pull straight out on it. I broke mine the first night I had the car.
I drove around with a pair of pliers in the car for a long time so I could open it, but it isn't that hard to replace the whole mechanism.

I just drive around with pliers in my driver side pocket, not a big deal.
However, I heard the part costs about 20 at the dealership and you just have to remove the inner fener to replace it. That's what my one buddy told me last night. Seems pretty simple

Mine broke also. probably about a month after i got my car, for awhile i carried around pliers, but i like to keep things clean so i replaced it, Seems pretty easy to do. what a Pain in the A** it is, The cable runs through the fender, past the headlight and then under the latch held on with some clips. maybe i did something wrong but it took like an hour and a half to replace.
It happens.
Here's how to prevent it. It's really simple:
Pull from the back of the tab with your fingers all the way up around the cable.
They break because people pull from the bottom of the tab, and the force on the crappy plastic snaps it off.

mine busted too, haha...so I just cut the cable near the engine bay and pulled it all the way through.
Now I just have this tiny pull cord near the hood so I can release it, a lil dangerous, but it works great.

mine broke about a year ago... bought the replacement cable and everything from the dealership... its pretty cheap... but i was too lazy to actually install it, and i was glad i didnt install it. my car got broken into, but the thieves couldnt grab anything bc they couldnt pop the hood and kill the siren.
so pretty much, ive decided to never install the new hood cable. its not hard to pop the hood with my hands.. .jsut takes a little bit of time, and dry fingers.

Get a new one, they're cheap as ****.
74130-S01-A01 WIRE ASSY., HOOD $13.82

#6 in the diagram. I assumed it's for the '99 Si you have in your sig (so that's what that's for) but you may adjust accordingly.

Hope that helps

EDIT:
Might wanna pick up a #22 also, it's a dollar - your call.
