valve springs and retainers for boosted ls
Im about to turbo my b18b. I already have the full turbo kit. I will be running around 10 psi. My question is, im going to get a victor x intake manifold and some crower 404 cams. What valve springs and retainers should i get to go with the cams. I was looking at the supertech valve springs and retainers, and when i pmed the sponsors about them they said they come with seats also. All the vtec ones my friends have got never came with seats, so i didnt know if i needed these. Just let me know what valve springs and retainers you guys recommend, thx a lot!
One more thing, this is in my daily driver, and im only shooting for around 300 hp. Would you recommend ls/vtec T, or just like keeping it straight ls, and adding cams and a intake manifold like stated above?

definitly decide what you want before you buy anything, rather keep the ls head or go with vtec head that way you can build accordingly.
i wouldntsay it is or isnt worth getting the vtec head, you can make the same power with a non vtec ls head, as you would with a b16 vtec head, i feel the flow of the b16 head is definitly going to be better than the ls head and the building up of a vtec head is definitly going to give you betteroverallgains oveer the straight ls head, and adding cams are definitly going to give you even more power with the b16 so all in all the b16 head is going to make more power overall over the ls head, but its not like 300whp straight ls havent been done, so its up to you
however if it was me, and i was building up a head, i would definitly go with a b16 head build it up and get cams for it, much more to gain in many different senses

yea i would go with a b16 head if you feel you will decide to go that road down the road lol, dont waste money now if you can make decisions you would make down the road now.
there are many variables that make the b16 head better than ls

yea well see if i was you and i was set on the ls head, i would definitly have to get a great valve job along with port and polish for the camshafts and whatnot, to increase the flow on the ls head
HOWEVER
if you went with a b16 head you could port and polish it for higher flow and have a great valve job, along wtih the built parts and you would still be sitting better than if you went with a ported ls head lol, so in reality you would be holding yourself back by not goingwtih a head that flows better off the bat

Yeah, i know the ls/vtec T would prolly be a good idea. My friend was saying that i already have a good head that doesnt leak any oil, and he thinks for my power goals just to get cams and itm for the ls, im just gona do some more research..

you have to realize his goal is only about 300hp. changing to a VTEC head is pointless if only going for about 300hp. you can make 500s easily on a non-vtec head.
Back to the original question. Supertech Valvespring and retainer setup includes Seats. The VTEC Valvetrain does not require seats, only the LS does. How do we know? Because we use and install these things all the time.

You will not see any gains.. I tryed it on a 400whp LS nonvtec set up and it lost hp....With a stock intake your turbo will spoll faster and have a LOT more torque. Its a waste if your not making over 500whp.
PS I went 11.08 @ 126 with a 2.0 LS nonvtec on 93octane and 11.7 @ 123 on 225bfg's on 93 octane w/a 1.8 LS nonvtec

Yeah i know the ls can make good power, i just dont want to run 15 psi. I figured if i got a vtec head, i wouldnt have to run as high psi to make the power i want. I understand what your saying, i just dont want to run 15 psi..
what does it really matter if you make 300 at 15 psi or 300 at 12-13.
its a couple pounds difference. i would put the money somewhere else and turn it up 2-3 pounds the motor will hold fine if tuned properly.
you could get so much for the money you'll waste on the cams and IM.
i dont think your gonna make 300 on 10PSI just cause you got cams and intake.
what about the ports? they are still stock/small

^^^^^^^^^^^ uh you want around 300HP and want suggestions.
ok so 10PSI LS/VTEC or 15PSI stock longblock LS. what does the pressure matter.
keep it simple leave it straight LS its perfectly capable of makin 300 stock longblock. why not save the money for other things.
i understand exactly what your saying but for the most part the boost level isnt as important as the tune and cylinder pressure, and cylinder pressure is more related to overall power than boost level.

Yeah i should just listen and not say dumb ****
I just had some extra money laying around i wanted to do something to my car. I think i should just pay off some bills and just keep it stock and have fun with the turbo

i just think you should do whatever you want but for your goals what you wanted to do is overkill i think and personally i keep things as simple as possible so that its less likely to break and or if it does break i will have the money for it.

Just because its a VTEC setup doesnt mean you boost less to make the same power.

they don't come with valve seats, they come with spring seat locators which go under the spring to keep it in place. Manley uses the stock locator and most other companies use there own. Manley, Ferrea and REV use there own valve lock as well. You really can not go wrong with any of the above mentioned companies spring packages, just depends on your buget, which the Supertech would be the cheapest.
I would definitly go with the LS/Vtec set up, as it would **** all over the LS
