Default Hissing sound in cabin/engine bay

Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this or know a fix or what it even is?

Its an 89 DX civic with a jdm b16.

At idle it sounds like there is a hissing sound coming from the left side of the dash firewall area. Its nothing in the car and its not wind coming in (i said idle lol) and when I pop the hood to listen its hard to tell the exact location but almost seems like it might be the alternator. Not sure if thats it or something else. Could just be the belt maybe? Anyone got any thoughts on that? Its a hard thing to try and diagnose over a forum I know... Thanks

thats when my hissing started, when i put on a short ram. but you said left side of the firewall, u mean drivers side correct? that is what throws me off, filter is on the other side. alt belt is on that side maybe that is it? me dunno but good luck.

I have a stock intake with a bunch of while drilled in the middle of it, it hisses and whines and sounds wonderful. Maybe you have a little bit of a squeaky (hissy) alt bearing? Not uncommon for things like that to make some noise.

Good luck.

thanks for the input, and the nice pic haha!

It does have a CAI, but its not that kinda hiss, its a little more high pitched than that, intake hiss is a little more deep and like a sucking sound, this is more like a pressure-ized hose kinda hiss, and you can hear it inside the car like its wind blowing through a cracked open window.

I kinda think its the alternator that seems to be the general area its coming from, I'll have to check out the MC though, thats still the same area and a possibility.

I've been experiencing a similar sound for the last month. I decided to take off the crank and belt overs to check out my timing belt, and found that the bearings on my tensioner pulley are shot, and make a dragging noise, kind of like an old roller skate. .. kind of like SSSHHHHHHHHHHHH.
