Default D16y7 on a6 block? (updated)

I have searched this out really well! I am wondering what ecu i should run on my y7/a6 motor im building. I have an obd1 z6 dizzy that im going to use. I am going to run a small turbo for a reliable quick daily driver. I have a 1991 std. hatch back and i am not sure what computer to use, so any helpful thoughts?

A d16a6 with a y7 head, kindof a wierd combo but nothing wrong with it... just make sure you remove the oil restrictor jet from the a6 block you cant miss it its in between cyl#2 and #3 in the deck. old school heads (pre-92)require that restrictor but most 92+heads have it built in, the y7 has it build into the head so if you run both the one from the a6 and the one built into the y7 you will have serious lack of oil in your head. Anyways, I'd use a p06, they are from 92-95 civic dx, they are cheap nonvtec obd-1 d series ecu and they are perfect for chipping and tuning

That dizzy isn't going to bolt up. You need one from a Y7 or Y8, ask for one for an EK civic non-HX. There are two, the TEC and the Hitachi, I don't remember offhand which you need, I *think* TEC.

well this is my point. I have a good d16a6 complete engine, i want a good daily driver turbo motor and i really like the look of the newer style heads over the square looking a6 head. Also i dont want the added expense and headache of adding a vtec head and ecu. So i thought a good motor would be an a6 block with a y7 head. I think its a good combo.

So if i remove the a6 oil restrictor then everything is A ok?

I need a good ecu to use for my build thats what im asking? The p06 is a good one? ok!

Also i can't use the y7 or y8 ecu because i dont want to convert to obd2! I want to use my d16z6 dizzy that i have left over from my last build. that way i can save some money!

I already said, it won't bolt up. It will work fine with the ECU, OBD1 and OBD2 distributors and ECUs all work fine together. You physically won't be able to bolt it to the head correctly, that's the problem.

Why not stay obd0? Use the PM6. Pick up an A6 dizzy and be done with it.

i have already done distributor swaps before and motified bolt patterns. thats the easy part. But i think i will pick up an a6 distributor because that one is the easiest to modify to fit the newer motors. I want to try to use the parts i have though. Thats the whole reason for this discussion. I was just wondering if it was possible to go to obd1 for tuning purposes using the p06 and the d16z6 dizzy.

yeah, the z6 dizzy will work perfect with the p06 ecu but like homie said its not going to bolt onto the head, and like you said no biggie. You can either do some grinding on the top dizzy hole and cut notch the other two ears so it will mount and adjust or consider using a d16y7 or d16y8 dizzy, they will bolt up perfect and both will work with the p06. That guy has a really good point about "why not just stay obd-0..." obd-0 will run that motor just fine untill you decide to boost it, then an obd-1 conversion becomes somewhat of a neccesity.

right i understand your piont. I would like to not have to buy so many parts when i have some right here. I might do what you guys have suggested but I always have the hardest time finding parts and that pisses me off! So i try to keep the searching to a minimum by running what i got! It would be nice though to use the obd2 dizzy that fits the motor and use the obd1 ecu!!!!!! it would look a lot cleaner! i also plan on running the d16z6 Intake manifold that i already have, and it has a b16 throttle body already!
