Default My new IM is done

I didn't build this, it was custom made for me by a friend. Its for the bastard child of the honda world, the D17A2, which comes with a very boost unfriendly plastic IM with 18" sink drain runners and a vertical throttle. While I could have converted it to a side throttle, we were both curious to see how it would work out if we left the throttle position upright.

The bottom of it looks like an ***

But its so the incoming air doesnt hit a flat bottom, it just gets divided and sent to each side.

Very nice fab work! Design looks great as well, I see exactly what you mean about the air coming in and getting divided up. Very good thinking!

Are you planning on welding injector bosses in the original location, or on the bottom? Same angle as the stockers? Are those rediused entry peices ("velocity stacks"), from RMR? Are they the 2" or the 2.25" ones? Is the rest of it .125" thick? Good looking manifold . I wonder how much the divider in the middle is going to help. Once again, nice piece.

because the stock IM is plastic, it has an aluminum injector plate which mates to manifold flange and bolts directly to the head. Thus, there's no need for bosses directly in the IM. I'm not sure where the stacks are from honestly, sorry, I didnt build it, I had some input and paid the bill. I wish I could weld, but thats something I havent learned how to do yet. the panels are 1/8", the reinforcement gussets under runners are 1/4".

That's pretty cool, and someone did a very nice job fabricating it.

Do you have a link to your D17 build up?

ask anyone, with the throttle body in the middle like that, youll get more of an equal amount of air to each cylinder.

I havent started the thread yet, the motor is almost apart, I got the girdle off last night, I just need to take the rod caps off and the crank can come out.
I'm trying to build up a little pile of pics before I start a dedicated thread to it, but here's a few teardown pics....

Plans are:
Darton Sleeved
Race Engineering/Wiseco 9:1 pistons
Crower rods
CP rings
OE bearings
New oil and H2O pump, sensors, belts, etc....

Crower Turbo cam
Crower springs and retainers
Supertech black nitrided valves
OE seals and guides

Still gonna rock the GT28R, we'll see if it can blow hard enough, if not, I'll deal with it later, the turbo set up is already built and it works pretty well now.

Havent decided on management yet, was going to go EMS, but Hondata just released "D-Pro" (Kpro) and so now I have some options.

Not sure if it's totally available yet, but basically hondata's ecu for the D17 civics. It's basically a K pro but it has a new cam gear to give the ecu the information it wants to see since the D17 spins the opposite way of the K series. There are trigger teeth on the cam gear, and the new cam gear has them reversed.

Ahhh, now it makes sense. I know the people making the D-Pro cam gears. That is a really nice intake manifold! Sounds like a serious setup. I like to see people who are not afraid to take the path less traveled, and do it well!
