Engine groans at freeway speeds.
Hi there! This is not relating to an Accord, but most cars are built the same and plus the Accord forum is the most knowledgeable in the whole Honda Tech Forum.
SO here's the situation:
My dad has a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant I4 Auto. (Used to like it until gives me problems<=Don't buy one, LEMON) I tried to find answers but never could find one. So here's my last stop to find an answer.
I had a timing belt change before done by a mechanic who tries to rip people off. When we got the car back, we drove it on a freeway. Before this timing belt change, the car was quiet and smooth. After the change, at 60MPH the engine sounds like it's groaning. It sounds like it's under stress and LOUD!!!
The thing is, the RPM from before and after is the same. But the sound is different.
What may have caused this?
I have some answers, but idk if it's right.
-Timing belt put on wrong?
-Balancer shaft and timing belt not working together?

Well I might think there could be a problem with the timing belt tension.
Seems like if the counterbalance shaft was out of time the engine would have bad vibrations. [no pun intended]

Man if hes a mech who tries and rip ppl off make sure nothings is missing from your engine or he could have used *used* parts and such, might be timing, maybe a retarted ignition? COuld be the Balancer shaft, or something could have not been torque down right either to little or too tight? Bring to another mech just to check out maybe? Goodluck. Mitsu's aren't that bad a car, just yea haha.
cheers!
cheers!
