How to measure clutch type LSD preload on H series tranny??
I am installing an ATS LSD (which is a clutch type) in my H22 transmission. To my knowledge there are no ball bearing options for this differential (which as I undersand it would allow me to measure preload by checking clearances on the thrust shim). I am installing the standard OEM tapered roller bearings onto this differential.
I am having some difficulty coming up with a way to measure preload to the differential. I have seen how some will stick a long piece of threaded rod through the diff and bolt some washers to either side to check the preload. My LSD won't allow you to do this. I cannot see straight through it. Are there any options other than welding a socket to the splines of an axle???

I just ordered several different sizes of the shims from honda. My LSD allowed me to run a section of threaded rod all the way through it. Then I used some nuts to jam large fender washers on to either end of the diff. And I jammed a couple washers together at the top of the rod. The result was that I could lay the tranny down and spin the diff with the threaded rod. The rest was just a matter of using a small torque wrench that could measure below 30 inch-pounds (not foot lbs) to measure the force it took to start the diff turning. The time consuming part is that you have to open up the tranny case several time to make measurements with all the different shim thicknesses until you get the measurement you want.
