Default Midwest Caravan.

I didn't see a midwest caravan so I figured I might get one started.

I plan on leaving sunday morning or so.

I guess the best route for me is: I-74 > I-75 > I-77

I wasn't sure what other peoples routes were. How many people are coming from the NW/Midwest?

I'm coming from the Midwest, but my route is slightly out of the way for most people around here:

It looks like i'll be canceling my trip to Expo 7 because of a recent change in employment. As of today I am working for Andretti Green Racing here in Indianapolis as a Data Acquisition Technician for Dario Franchitti's #27 car. Vacation can not be taken during the race schedule and i'll be in Dallas, Texas that weekend for a race.

After attending the expo last year I have been looking forward to attending everyone there after but it looks like I won't be able to make it. If anyone from the midwest ever goes to Putnam park let me know. Only about an hour from my house and I hope to make it out there a couple times this summer.

P.S. if any of you ever attend IRL races and can get into the pits let me know and i'll show you around the Andretti Green garage with Dario Franchitti, Tony Kannan, Marco Andretti and Dannica Patrick as drivers. Michael Andretti to if you make it to the Indy 500.

I remember meeting Michael Andretti in his driver couch. Didn't seem to friendly but im some average joe. (Nice RV I might add). I used to setup all the internet for the News/Paper media. It was a good job, got me some connections.

I-75 doesn't cross I-77.

Erik95LS noted in this post - and, after consulting a map, I believe him - that the quickest/best route from Indy is:

- I-74 to Cincinnati
- The "John Y. Brown Jr. AA Highway" (KY 9) from Cinci to Grayson KY and I-64
- I-64 east to Charleston WV
- I-77 south.

Both of the times I have driven to and from VIR, I have taken the following route from Charleston on I-77. I'm not positive that it's the quickest/best route, but I think so.

- I-77 south to Exit 9 (Princeton WV)
- US-460 east to Blacksburg and I-81
- I-81 north to Roanoke
- US-220 south to Martinsville
- US-58 east to Danville and VIR

You'll find lots of curves on I-77 and US-460. I can tell you (from both trips) that they're not much fun in snow, but I don't think you'll need to worry about that in June.

Watch for police in VA. If you have a radar detector, remember to put it away when crossing the state line; they're illegal in VA.

This is the route that map quest throws up.

It looks like we will be def making a stop in Cincinnati.

If I planned to stop there at 10 am, that would put us there at VIR at about 6pm. On sunday.

Im under the assumption there will be registration Sunday night?

Hopefully we wont have too... But things can arise and nice to know there is a place to work not in your home area if there is any issues along way.

If people are coming down from chicago/wisconisn area we can meet up in Indy.

Lunchbox: Where should we meet in cincinnati?

Also people can always crash at my place if they don't want to make the journey in 1 day. I plan on leaving at 8am on Sunday morning.

Well, My house is right off I-74 at the I-275 / I-75 split. So if we want we can meet at my house, or in that area. Depending on the time of day it would be less traffic to go around Cincinnati than to go through it, so we can cooridnate that when the time comes, but the nice thing about meeting at my place is we could meet up and wait for stragglers if need be.

I might have to take you up on this... Otherwise I'd have to leave my house at like 3am just to meet up with you guys.

We'll figure something out.

I understand that. But that is not the quickest route.

As previously noted, Erik's "short cut" from Cincinnati to Grayson KY on AA is shorter and it's a very quick road (even though it doesn't look like it on a map).

Also, I have been told (on the RR/AX forum) that US-58 from I-77 to Martinsville is very slow going and that going via Blacksburg and Roanoke is a much better route, which is why I went that way.

Your choice, though.
