Default seeking opinion on a Itr

Hey guys. I am an Acura integra type r rookie. I own a 2003 dodge ram and I found a itr locally. I have been wanting to get a tuner car for years. The integra type r cought my eye. I have done some research on them and they seem to be what I am looking for. Super fast and great handling car out of the box. I have read some of the posts on this forum and you guys really speak highly of this car. the one that I found is yellow ( I hate yellow). It has a carbon fiber hood and some engine mods done to it. It has 89k it seems to be in good shape although I havnt been able to really check out the body. The dealership is asking 13-14k for it. Is this a good deal for it? I know its a honda and hondas are good for 150k+ miles but 89k seems kinda high for me. I could live with driving a yellow car i guess. Any info about this car and advice is very appreciative. thanks guys.

I suggest one thing.
Search how frequently they get stolen. It might change your mind.

Good or bad, but if you do buy one you will have to deal with it. No matter where you live.

yea your location may play a big role on wheather to get it or not.. also hondas last alot longer than 150k if you treat them right.. type r's seem to eat up some oil once they have 70-100k on them.. i would say go test drive to see if you even like the feel of the car and go from there.. if you like it offer the dealer $12k.. also some pics would help us determine if its a good deal.if the only thing done to it is a cf hood then price seems good..

Car Fax? All Vins in place? 89k is a little higher than average for a car. Shape, Interior, Dents, SCratches, compression test etc etc.

Keep in mind 14k area should get you a pretty mint ITR with around 65-80k miles.

Eh?
89,000 divided by 6 years if it's a 2001 equals 14,833 miles a year.
89,000 divided by 7 years if it's a 2000 equals 12,724 miles a year.

I don't see that being being any problem, or higher then most people will do.

Well I live in New Hampshire. I dont think I would have that bad of a problem with theft but you never know these days. Obviously I would buy some sort of security system for it. Im new here and I couldnt figure out how to post pics so I will just give you the link to the page.

IMHO if you hate yellow, this is not the car for you. It's quite yellow.
Don't settle, because you really don't have to. What you are saying is that you want to buy it because its local.
If you were willing to fly/drive to pick one up, you could likely get a color and price that meet your expectations. Also, if you look for cars for sale here on honda-tech, chances are it will be better taken care of, and better documented. At 89K you obviously need to know when (if) the timing belt/water pump was done. How much oil does it consume? Modifications? Title state? Lots of bearings and bushings will be wearing out at this point, motor mounts (each car will be different of course), axles...
Lack of OEM hood is NOT a feature/upgrade.
The mileage would not worry me too much, depending on how it was cared for.
I would not consider it a good deal at 13-14K if it immediately needs a few thousand in maintanence or repairs. I would expect to pay around 15 or 16K for a good condition 2000/2001 that may have a few small needs. A mint, no repairs needed ITR would be more like 17-19.

well I definetly plan on trading in my truck for it. I would like something with better gas mileage. I dont really prefer a yellow car but i could live with it.

YOu could probably haggle the dealership, you can also bring up why they are selling a 00/01 vehicle with no airbags.... I dont even know if thats a valid point or not.....but be aware that the car does not have the factory steering wheel, it is a JDM non SRS steering wheel.

If everything checks out, it sounds like a good deal. I would do some serious diagnosis, though.

And not only will you get better gas mileage, you can tow, haul and pull with the R. I swear the Integra's like a Japanese El Camino. Where's that picture of the couch in the R?

Since its at the dealership, request that they do a compression check. That will give you a good idea whether or not you can expect a Mobil1 moneymaker.

Yeah I was definetly planning a compression check. I would also like to check it out on a lift. I am a collison repair technician so I can definetly tell if its been in a wreck or not. hopefully in the next couple days I can drive out there and check her out. My buddy has a supra and I need to get a car that can keep up with him. Luckily its a non-turbo but its still fast.

Oh and BTW, any pics of your Cadillac? I am a Freak for old Cadillacs

Thanks again guys.

i owned mine from new and if i had to get another i would go over the car witha list
look under the dash to see if master cylinder is leaking
leak down test
service records
timing belt
water pump
pre tensioner
compression test
check the body panels for all the security stickers
put it on a hoist to inspect for underside damage
wheel bearing noise
have someone follow you while you test drive, to see if the car runs straight
alignment
tire wear will tell if the wheels are bent
black soot on rear bumper, dictates if burning oil, if it is clean lift the hatch and look on the underside
drive on a bumpy road to listen for squeaks and rattles
the headlights suck
check the front lip to see if it was cracked and been repaired
DO NOT GET YELLOW if it is the color you dont want BUY the color you want

if you buy it enjoy its fun
if you could find another r owner to go check out the car
