opinions on Si -> Fit
I've got an '06 Civic Si that I love to death. However, the threat of $3+ gas this summer, a 17 month old boy and finances in general have me thinking more and more of a practical car and I just so happen to really dig the Fit. I read that we only spend about 10% of our time in our vehicle which got me alarmed, do I sound nuts or responsible? man getting old sucks. Gimme some feedback.
There's nothing wrong with growing up and becoming a responsible person.
Even though premium will probably be around $3.00 per gallon, even 87 will probably remain between $2.30-$2.50. So how much would you actually be saving yourself? The Si doesn't get that bad of fuel economy. Sure, it may not get 40+ MPG, but it's not like it gets 8 MPG either.
And the other thing, do you owe money on the Civic? If you had to trade it in you could be upside down on the amount owed and then you'd end up with a bigger car payment.

Thanks for the reply, I wouldn't take a hit, if I sold the Si I would still make back the $8,000 I put down on it, plus a few bucks here and there I've been saving. I think I'd run at the base model and swap out the bumpers with maybe the Australian spec Jazz....maybe.
If you MUST have a 4 door then do it, otherwise I'd stick to the Si.
People are having problems acheiving MPG estimates which should be around 37-38 MPG highway. A more realistic MPG on the Fit is more like 30-32MPG and If I'm not mistaken you should be already acheiving something close to that in your Civic.
Funny you should post this because I wasn't to happy with the MPG on my Fit so I tried to trade in for the Si, but I was too "upside down" on my loan. For the time being I'm going to stick with the Fit

I really like the Si and considered one, but I bought the Fit Sport. The Fit handles well and is still fun to drive, but it's more practical to me than the Si. You can "fit" a lot of stuff inside. I like to go mt biking and my bike fits inside with no problems. The magic seat configures so that you can do some hauling you wouldn't expect. It's no Si in terms of performance...however it's not trying to be and that's okay with me.

The Fit can't compare because it's not supposed to.

Exactly. Fit is an econo commuter. Si is an entry level performace car. Apples and oranges.
The AUTOMATIC Fit is the one w/ the low mileage claims--around 32mpg hwy. I've read plenty of accounts of the manuals doing 37mpg hwy. Ig euss it can vary greatly w/ driving style, though.
If getting a carseat in and out of a coupe is an issue, then the Fit might make more sense.

I traded in my 06 Civic EX coupe in for my Fit Sport...

Uhh.. how? The Civic is well priced, gets great gas mileage, etc etc. Maybe the coupe was just a bad choice, but I believe the civic is just as practical as a fit.

Not for carrying cargo/odd/large items.

eL's particular civic did NOT get the gas mileage he expected. i even thought it was rediculous getting 150 miles and having only a half tank left.
plus when i need to transport boxes, or rims in my car its so much harder. makes me wish my dealer found me a black 5spd sport back in nov
