Trouble mounting EP3 Mugen wing
Hey does anyone here know how to mount a Mugen wing on an EP3? Every picture I see with a genuine Mugen wing installed on a US-market EP3 has that brutal gap on the underside. I was thinking about just throwing on a replica but the wing surface isn't curved the same, since Mugen actually wind-tunnel tests their aero parts. Any info would be a huge help! Thanks!
do u have a legit mugen wing? if so its made for the type r hatch which is different from the the reg si. therefore u have to shave some of it down. mugen reps sit nice and flush and comes in cf.

Thats right. Not worth getting the genuine one imo if ur just gonna have to shave down a $1000+ wing anyways.

Many replicas are (or were) based 100% off the Mugen wing, which means that they also need to have their lower mounting points cut out to fit safely on the USDM EP3.
Don't worry about the wind tunnel testing unless you're going 100+ mph on a track. Even then, I don't think that there's enough difference between replica and genuine.
Since it's a big piece, I'll suggest adding some reinforcement at the bottom edge. I got some 3M "Recloseable Fastener" tape strips and put several between the glass and the edge of the wing.

Thanks for the info. My uncle and I are in the process of building an ep for time attack so that car will definitely be seeing 100+mph. For my daily driver though, I think I'll cheap out and go with a replica in cf, would be a shame to shave down the real thing.
In that case, I'd think about either using the replica or a BTCC-style wing on the track car.
Mugen supposedly did their wind tunnel testing and were the first on the market with that airfoil wing, but I don't think the replicas are functionally different in any way. The Mugen is sure to be better constructed and fit more accurately, of course, but I can't imagine that it would matter on track.
Of course, if the rules allow, you could also conceivably use the base portion of the Mugen wing as a mounting location for airfoils of your own design. There's something like seven holes on each side already.

Well I just called my uncle and read him these posts and he says he'll just buy both and give me the one he doesn't want. Sweet deal for me

Well I wish I could gloat with the genuine Mugen wing but no... Turns out he's going to modify the Mugen piece to sit at the exact same angle as it would on the JDM hatch. And btw, the real bastard is my uncle... if only we could all have money to throw away lol (which is kind of odd since I have to pay for the rep now haha) Either way, In about a month or so I should be on Tein Basics with OZ Super Leggeras with my rep wing
When it all comes together I'll post some pics. I've only had my EP a few days now and already I can see why you guys love them so much.
