Default A bit of fun with my new legos

I have the manifold all welded now

My icengineworks 1.75" "lego" kit came in
Manifold is equal within 1" and sequential design to go off firing order
I personally dont believe the equal length hype but this customer did so gotta do what the customer wants lol

Looks like a lot of different angle curves, going to be a lot of welds!

They're pretty expensive, if you don't build headers for a living, probably not worth the money. Over $1000/set, right?

A friend of mine sells those "lego" kits, he sells them for $1000 a pop, its pretty cool stuff, but i still haven't figured out why they are so expensive.

the injection molds to make those parts are expensive and when your only selling a few units = price is sky high.

Yah if I was going to do a big production run on these and have 10 orders to fill as all cnc mandrel benders I have talked to have a minimum of 10 to do something (would be a total 40 bends custom each around 100 - 200 each so the price would be a bit high)

Being that it took me about 5 minutes to completely design a equal lenght manifold from scratch I would say it is well worth the price

Note I am a guy that does this stuff for a living, I did not just buy the set for doing to 1 manifold I do this work as an everyday thing so when I can do work like this very quickly on a custom setup and not have to waist several hundred in material to weld plus the time it takes to cut/fit/tack/test/then find out it wont work.....

Exactly, i think they're a good investment for someone in the business. If i did more header stuff, i'd buy them.

never seen this before... looks like a nice investment.. figure 1 good sale will pay for it.. looks like it takes hours off the design time for sure.. so is it $1k for a kit of 4 im assuming??

that's pretty badass. Much more 'real world' than wasting your time with a CAD package.

I resent that remark CAD is freaking awesome. Plus I can pirate CAD, I can't pirate those legos.

I still think that those are a terrific idea though.

That looks very cool, well worth the money obviously.

Those pieces that fit into your head flange, are they part of the kit and how come they don't fit perfectly square into the flange (I'm assuming that's part of the header building process where you fudge the "exactness" a little bit to get things to line up just right)?

Thanks,
Fred

I thought it was awesome too until I realized that my turbo would end up somewhere near my hood latch..

You'd have to draw the whole engine bay (or some kind of envelope) to be 100% sure that everything will fit ok. It's no different than building a manifold on an engine stand and then crossing your fingers when it's comes time for a test fit. It's time wasted where these "legos" are a physical representation that can be mocked up in much less time! Unless I was building something for Honda I wouldn't bother with CADing a turbo manifold.

I think CAD is freaking awesome for making the exhaust flanges however.

Those pieces came with the kit and fit perfectly in a 1.75" tube for fitting up, that is a s2k flange which has a oval port so I just had to make it work lol
My old man is working on programs for some special flanges for all motors for these legos for builders like me so you just snap them in

Software piracy is bullshit. If you're going to make money off of it, buy the software. Yes, it may be expensive, but there is a reason for that.

God these things rock!
Customer wasnt quite happy with the original design so I started messing with them some more and got a end design the customer loves and is much easier to build

Looks like a cosworth manifold for an s2k lol
Unfortuantly it isnt as close to el as it was before but is still closer than anything else out there
(p1 13", p2 13", p3 11", p4 13")

Looks good man. That will save you some serious money in the end....

I use cppexhaust collectors this one happens to be a burns because the customer supplied me with it but I prefer cpp

Yah at first I didnt think they would make such a difference but I did the math and had I did the cad work on computer built the manifold all in stainless then find out customer doesnt like and wants different design and I redo in computer then build again...
I had saved over $600 in material and time on computer in just this one job so I am sure it will more than pay for itself in the long run
