Couple of questions about my recently purchased 92 accord
I just bought a 92 accord lx 4 door that has 108k miles on the gauge. The body is in pretty good shape as well as the paint save a few little dents and something that looks like where maybe tarp gromits where flapping on the sides chipping the paint. Didn't notice any drips though the engine is a little dirty. Interior was in real good condition for a 92 also, so I took it to my friends house to check it out.
I told my friend how the man said it had a new transmission and so we went under the hood to see what was up...of course I was kinda suspicious as to why a car with 108k miles had a new tranny. We started out looking for any signs of it being wrecked and ended up finding a couple of brackets that didnt match up. I didn't really know anything about hondas engine numbering system, but we found a f22b2 on the block and after a little research determined that this engine was from a newer model honda. Not sure off of the top of my head, but I think mine should have had a f22a-model engine. Anyhow, the transmission was rock solid and the engine seemed to run well so I bought it.
What I want to know is, will this cause me any problems as far as finding aftermarket parts and if there is any possible way to find out the milage on the car this engine came out of.
It seems like a pretty good engine...a little rough on the idle...a little dirty on the inside, and just a touch of the normal honda engine racket, but otherwise seems good.
Thanks for any input. Also any tips on getting the idle to smooth out would be nice. I am about to replace plug wires and plugs(ngk) already did air filter, going to get due oil change taken care of and a new egr valve when I find a store that has one handy.

Sorry about the second post before a reply, but looking at the list of honda engine codes I get this.
F22B 2.2L USDM SOHC VTEC 94-97 Accord EX/97 2.2CL 145hp
Does that mean I have the v-tek or are there diff f22b models that arent...The parts guy asked me if it was v-tek so I guess it's relavent.

alright well to find out the milage of that certain engine, your kinda out of luck unless you can find the original odometer. If it said F22b2 then that engine was made in North America becuase the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) do not have numbers after the letters(i believe i can be wrong). YOur engine was used in the later models of our Accords 90-93 are CB7, 94-97 are the new body style. Used in the DX/LX models.
Heres a little info on the engine.
* Bore × Stroke: 85.0 × 95.0 mm
* Displacement: 2156 cc
* Valve Configuration: SOHC, 16 valves
* Compression ratio: 8.8:1
* Max power: 130 hp (97 kW) @ 5300 rpm
* Max torque: 139 ft·lbf (188 Nm) @ 4200 rpm
The thing is V-tec was offered only on the EX models for the accord so depends, you can usually read it on the top of the engine. The V-tec only worked for the Intake part of the engine when it was introduced. There is alot of aftermark support for most honda engines big or small haha. hope this info helped a bit =P Best of luck.

Find out what the exact engine code is in you car, and then check out this link:http://www.accordinglydone.com...ies=F
it gives all the specs of the F series engines, and what car they came in.

About the letter after the engine code.... i did not know that.
So... if the car has a F22.... (whether it was vtec or not), you would know unless it was stated on the valve cover?!
Would like to know if that's correct...... bump!

if it is VTEC, it is ALWAYS written on the top of the engine valve cover in big letters. It is not something that you can miss on the engine. The LX usually comes in non-vtec though. To put a VTEC in an LX requires you to swap out the ECU (electronic control unit) which is a major swap. with wiring up the VTEC to work.
The engine mounts might be worn out or dried up causing the car to drive 'rougher'. You could put in new engine mounts to make it smoother and absorb the vibrations from the engine better. Overall, older Accord engines are iron tanks.
