Default fan speeds won't work?

I have a 2002, 4 cylinder. My heater/defroster fan speed only works on speeds 3 and 4. The first two speeds nothing happens. Someone told me it's the resistor? Is this something a 5 thumbed numbnut like me can fix? If so, where do I find the resistor, and how much to fix? Thanks!

Blower motor resistor is under the glove box by the blower motor; 4 wire connector going to it. It is held in with 2 phillips head screws.
