My second Free-hand by ludesleep(valve spring compressor)
I honestly don't see how this will work. I have done a couple heads in my time and just one screw pushing on the side of the retaining clip doesn't work that great and will put side stress on the valves, seals and guides.
I imagine the screw pushes on the center of a hollow cylinder that seats on the retainer, with a cutout so you can get the keepers in and out, no?

I took a socket the size of the od of the retainer. Then I machined the sides out to compress the retainer and spring down...I will post another pic here in a sec to show you.

I'd rather be punched in the face than spend $70 for that.

is there a bearing or a bushing device that goes between the socket and the allen head screw ? does the socket try to spin around when compressing the valve spring?

</TD></TR></TABLE> No not really ...the ball nose on the end of the bolt usually spins freely on top. If it does start you can feel it starting to turn as your tightening the bolt. I just hold the socket if it does. I also have one that I put some foam with adhesive on one side to stick to the bottom for customers.

Yes back before i could afford a goodson pneumatic clamp I used a clamp with the same size socket welded to the end.

Looks like more of a 1 man operation compared to the snap on on car spring compressor we have.
Plus your hand doesn't go numb from installing stiff *** valve springs as someone tries to pop the keepers in.
