What kind of car and year do you have? You name leads me to think a 94 civic but I've never seen a slave cylinder that looks like that before.

the metal rod fits into the boot on the left facing the way they do in the pic, then the boot slips on the top of the cylinder, the round part of the rod will touch against the pressure plate arm

I just realized that it does look like the usual slave cylinder. It's just not fully assembled. You have to put it together. The last one I bought came assembled. By looking at it... you should be able to figure it out how it goes. Remember to bleed it after you put it on.

I have a b16 and when I bought the car it has a cable tranny, so they might have prefabbed that bar to make it work

its sort of like a piston...it works back and forth when you press and depress on the clutch

Just bleed it until it feels good. It might take a little brake fluid. Bleed it until it lets a steady stream of brake fluid out with no air. good luck

U do leave the clutch master cap off when bleeding correct? Or does it even matter?

i left mine open to see if the fluid was going down or not, because you dont want it to go all the way down that way it will suck up air and u'll have to start over. but dam i just relized that my slave cylinder is fucked, cause it makes a sqeaky sound when i step on the clutch, and the rubber boot that covers it is ripped. you know where i can get another one for my 95 civic si. and how to put it on and all since, it seems like youve already done it.
