whats the purpose of a dual wastegate set-up?

 

To vent incredibly high amounts of exhaust gas or to vent exhaust gas from divided manifolds. Learn something before you become incredulous about it.

never seen a set-up like this before, its a good idea, but still. its wierd

 

Wait, wait, wait. You ask about dual-wastegates and then you post a series of pictures that has nothing to do with dual-anything. The wastegate is on the turbo manifold and the BLOW OFF VALVE is on the intercooler. Those aren't even close to the same thing

You obviously have no idea what a wastegate does or you wouldn't have mistaken the shiny thing on the INTERCOOLER for a wastegate.

this is dual wastegates:

 

the main purpose of dual wg's is for divided housing turbo's (twin scroll)
but a lot of the time some people run them on turbo's that don't have divided housing b/c they plan to run low boost on a *smaller* turbo, so to prevent boost spike they run two smaller wg's to "vent" the extra exhaust gas.also it's baller.
i personally run an HKS gt2 60mm wg....twin 38mm can kiss my *** lol
