once u drop the tank, everything's pretty much self explanatory. there's some lines u gotta unhook. make sure u get new washers and a jack near by helps. i dropped it myself so its not hard.
yes u should have 2 rubber straps holding it on to the under carrige renove those and the hoes that connects to ur gas door youll see some connections and clips remove every thing and it will fall rite out it goes back the same way u took it apart hope this helps u
i suggest you drain the gas before you try loosening the two straps to drop the tank. . . once you drain the tank you must unhook the hoses and wires that connects to the tank which will be on the left side of the tank. . . . it will be the hoses that when you fill up the car, a line where your engine recirculates the excess gas, and other wires. Be sure to disconnect the wire above under the rear seat just in case. Once you have done all that and replaced the pump i suggest using a jack and a phonebook because it will be difficult to put back the tank.
I just removed the fuel pump on my 91 teg.
First drain all the gas. There's a drain plug that you can undo to get almost all of it out.
Then, get under the car and remove the plastic cover near the driver rear wheel. That will expose a bunch of the return lines and such. You can undo some of the brackets that hold these in place so they have some play. I don't think you HAVE to disconnect them. Same for the electrical lines for the gauge and pump. Remove brackets and don't bother trying to disconnect. Don't even bother with the connector under the rear seat.....it won't get you anything to remove it.
Remove the bolts holding the 2 straps near the front. 10mm, if I remember right. Use a bit of penetrating oil on them to possibly salvage them so you can reinstall the same ones later.
Now, the tank will start to drop but will be hung up a bit on the exhaust. You can wiggle it around and get it down. Drop the jack a bit to just keep the tank from clanging to the floor. You don't really have to undo any of the fuel lines or electrical lines.
Get the tank low enough to expose the fuel pump. It is held in place with 6 or 8 10mm nuts. Remove them and the pump pulls out. You might have to lower the tank even more to pull it out. Once out, pull it where you can get the wires disconnected. I think there's a connector right at the pump, but don't remember for sure. Same for the fuel and return line. Now you have the pump.
If you need a pump cheap, the guy who I pulled mine for must have been abducted by aliens as I haven't heard from him since he commited to buy it. $15 and shipping and it's yours. It's out and ready to go.
